Hi everyone!
I just wanted to let you know that there is a wonderful article in the
Oldham County Era newspaper today on Harry. They talk about his work
with the fire department and his qualifying for Boston. There are 2
great pictures of Harry too! If you have a chance, check it out.
Harry, I haven't seen you in awhile. Congrats!

Yes, you are correct that I also recently moved into a new age group-Senior Geriatrics division. I moved into that division so you would have a chance to win more hardware since I would not be in your division any longer. I know how you are about the hardware!. I'm all about being a team player. I finally got out yesterday for a short run to test my foot. I am happy to report that everything felt great so now it appears that I am back in the saddle again so look out Senior Geriatrics division. Bring on the hardware!
You look great!!!

Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your home page.

Howard, you are absolutely correct, I need to be more careful
since I am now officially member of the geriatric department. That
reminds me, didn’t you just move into another age group as well? I
am just asking.
I took advantage of the spring weather and ran 8 miles this
evening. It did hurt at the end, but “no gain without pain”,
right?
See you soon,
Manfred

Hello Manfred:
Sorry to hear of your foot accident. You must be more
careful-now that you are in a new age group!! Hopefully you will be back
out there very soon sprinting down the highway.

Congratulations to you Ricky-4th overall!! Pretty impressive. We do miss seeing your smiling face however. Perhaps you could grace us with your presence for coffee some Saturday. Great job at your trail run
Thanks for asking; my foot seems to be better than it appeared
after the incident happened. I was simply lucky, it did not look very
good initially; but after the pain subsided and two days of taking it easy
there is just one area left with 3rd degree burns. I wore
shoes today without any problems, so I hope I can give it a try and run very
soon again.
Manfred
How's your foot Manfred? Are you able to swim?
For those who participated in the Otter Creek run, how was it? We
had alot of rain in Oldham county during the race time. Did it hit
you?
Ande
Congratulations, you are the man. The conditions were
obviously much worse than they appeared just looking out of the window here at
home. What a day out at Otter Creek Park. I am sure we will hear
some more war stories in the near future.
We barely see you anymore. So what is the next on your “Survivor”
list? I assume it will be a triathlon?
Manfred
Hello everyone I SURVIVED!!!
What can I say about the OCT Marathon other than extremely
difficult. The conditions were very sloppy. You didn't run down the
hills, you slid down them. You didn't run up the hills, you climbed
them. If it wasn't enough that the first 22 miles were in the nasty mud
then mother nature had to come and dump 3 to 4 inches of water on us so the
last 4 miles were ran in ankle deep water. I might sound like I'm
complaining but for a trail run it was perfect. I ran my slowest marathon
ever but arguably my best. I came in 4th overall and ran a blistering 4
hr. and 24 min.(no pun intended Manfred). If you've never ran any of the
distances at Otter Creek then you should try one next year. It is a small
event and the people that put it on legitimately care about you having a good
time. They have an 8, 16, or marathon so you have many options.
Hope to see you all soon.

The nice thing about trail running is that weather really does
not play a role at all; or so they say. It looks like rain for the next
several days, and between 49 and 60F on Sunday. So the trails will be muddy,
but now ice. It could almost be shorts weather.
I will see you hopefully on Sunday morning.

Fun Run Hike
Just a reminder, the annual Otter Creek Trail Marathon and
8 or 16 mile Run is coming up again this Sunday, December 9. Late
registration starts at 7:30 am, race start is at 8:30 am. If you have not
been to Otter Creek Park yet, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. If
you have been there, you probably will want to come back anyway.
The course is very scenic, hilly, challenging, but runnable. The whole
park is just beautiful, especially along the creek and then high above the Ohio
River (of course there are some serious inclines involved). The Otter
Creek Trail is a 8 mile loop; so the 8 mile run is one loop, 16 miles are two
loops, and the marathon requires three loops and then some. There are no
awards or T-shirts for the 8 and 16 mile racers, only for the
marathoners. In my opinion, the 8 mile loop is very doable; the 16 mile
loop is a good challenge; and the full marathon is more than I would want to do
on this course. But that is just me.
The trail conditions can vary widely, from bone dry, to
muddy, to icy. Be prepared.
There will be two aid stations, one at the start and one
at about 4 miles into the loop. The park’s Nature Center will be
open, so you can change after the race, rest, eat, and tell war stories.
Don’t forget to bring dry clothes and shoes.
If anyone wants to carpool let me know.
Manfred
By the way, I have a lightly used pair of trail running
shoes that doesn’t fit me very well. They are Adidas Brahma, size
12 ½, regular width. I will give them away for free, otherwise I will
drop them into Camille’s used shoe drum.

You are absolutely right about the survival mission, but I am certain
you will survive. I will join you for only 16 miles. I will see you before
and probably after the race.

Good message Manfred. I'm looking forward to seeing
you at the race. I'm going to try the marathon this year so I should
definitely have a war story or two after the race. Actually I'm not
calling this a race. It's more of a survival mission.

I enjoyed the birthday celebration.
I hope I will see some of you at the Fast Freddies race. I'm
registered, but I think I hurt myself again and I'm not sure whether
I'll be able to run. It's my surgery site this time. Hope I didn't
tear the muscle again. Wish me luck! I can't take another sabbatical
from running or I will go insane!
I hope everyone enjoys the upcoming Turkey trots and Thanksgiving
feasts!

I wish you a very happy birthday. Sorry to have missed
your birthday party. The store had not been open this morning, and it was
still closed when Fred and I returned from our 13 mile run. Being sweaty
and getting cold quickly we did not really have the option of waiting and drove
home. It sounds like you had a great party.
On a really serious note: Howard, you managed to dodge the
bullet again. Now we have to wait another five years! (For the uninitiated:
every 5 years there is a window of about 3 weeks where Howard and I are in the
same age group. Every time he threatens to beat me in a race. 5
years ago something mysterious happened and Howard was not available for a
race. This year he conveniently managed to have a running injury
preventing him from racing. Isn’t this suspicious? We all
know what a great actor he is. Soooooo, Howard, what will it be 5 years
from now?)
Good luck with your play (I may even come and see you).
Best,
Manfred

Dennis,
I can meet you at the tennis courts and try to run with you. Although i mentioned 10 miles as a reference, i was only planning on running 6miles (5 will be fine) of it! (Sorry Tammy, i'm not quite there yet and probably never will be.). How about 8:30am in front of the bathrooms? I'll probably arrive a little earlier to loosen up.
I wanted to do a five miler tomorrow. I was thinking about doing the 5 miles course starting at the tennis courts. I was going to try and do it in about 36:00. Didn't really have a time set up to do it. Any interest in doing it with me?
Hi all,
What time are you all running tomorrow and what type of distance? Mark
mentioned an 18 miler at 7am and I've heard that there are several
people going to Memphis who will be running long. Any "short" runs
planned? (That would be 10 miles or less).

Lookin' forward to seeing ya!

Ande,
Several people are doing 10 miles at 7am. I think you could hook up with them.
