As you already may have read/heard, the City of Louisville
is going to close Otter Creek Park on December 14, 2008 as part of its cost
reduction efforts. Unfortunately, this closing seems to be permanent; you
can read about it at Metro Park’s website (http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroParks/parks/ottercreek/FAQ_closure.htm
). According to the Parks Department the park will not be accessible to
the general public anymore; the official words are: “Metro Parks will
coordinate with local law enforcement to assist with monitoring the property”.
This is a very unfortunate development; time will tell how permanent
“permanent” really is. No trail running at Otter Creek
anymore; hard to fathom. On the other hand, it seems that nobody wants to
pay taxes.
If you want to run the trail one last time the Otter Creek Trail
Marathon on December 14 is your best opportunity. Besides the marathon
there are also 8 mile and 16 mile fun runs offered. You can register
through Active.com or at headfirstperformance.com.
Hopefully see you at Otter Creek on Dec. 14.
