Re: [fleetfeetlouisville] The Otter Creek Trail Marathon and 8 or 16 mile Fun Run Hike

Hello everyone I SURVIVED!!!
What can I say about the OCT Marathon other than extremely difficult.  The conditions were very sloppy.  You didn't run down the hills, you slid down them.  You didn't run up the hills, you climbed them.  If it wasn't enough that the first 22 miles were in the nasty mud then mother nature had to come and dump 3 to 4 inches of water on us so the last 4 miles were ran in ankle deep water.  I might sound like I'm complaining but for a trail run it was perfect.  I ran my slowest marathon ever but arguably my best.  I came in 4th overall and ran a blistering 4 hr. and 24 min.(no pun intended Manfred).  If you've never ran any of the distances at Otter Creek then you should try one next year.  It is a small event and the people that put it on legitimately care about you having a good time.  They have an 8, 16, or marathon so you have many options.  Hope to see you all soon.

Graham, Ricky,
By the time I am writing this, Graham has most certainly finished his 8 mile loop, while Ricky is probably still out on his “survival mission” for the full marathon.  I assume that the trail conditions are decent today at Otter Creek Park; there was probably some mud sliding, but temperature allowed for shorts and short sleeves.   What an unusual day in the middle of December.
Unfortunately, I had to discard my plans for the 16 mile trail run today.  I burned my left foot with boiling water yesterday afternoon.  One of these stupid things you believe only happens to other people.  The injury is not really serious, but the resulting blister is big enough to not allow for any running for a few days.  Rats, I really had looked forward doing this run.  I hope to be back in business soon, especially since our “official” spring marathon training started this week.  I already screwed up successfully week one and week two.
Let us know how the race went.
Yours truly “jealous and sidelined”
Manfred
