Ricky,
You are absolutely right about the survival mission, but I am certain
you will survive. I will join you for only 16 miles. I will see you before
and probably after the race.
Manfred

or 16 mile Fun Run Hike
Good message Manfred. I'm looking forward to seeing
you at the race. I'm going to try the marathon this year so I should
definitely have a war story or two after the race. Actually I'm not
calling this a race. It's more of a survival mission.

Just a reminder, the annual Otter Creek Trail Marathon and 8 or 16 mile Run is coming up again this Sunday, December 9. Late registration starts at 7:30 am, race start is at 8:30 am. If you have not been to Otter Creek Park yet, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. If you have been there, you probably will want to come back anyway. The course is very scenic, hilly, challenging, but runnable. The whole park is just beautiful, especially along the creek and then high above the Ohio River (of course there are some serious inclines involved). The Otter Creek Trail is a 8 mile loop; so the 8 mile run is one loop, 16 miles are two loops, and the marathon requires three loops and then some. There are no awards or T-shirts for the 8 and 16 mile racers, only for the marathoners. In my opinion, the 8 mile loop is very doable; the 16 mile loop is a good challenge; and the full marathon is more than I would want to do on this course. But that is just me.
The trail conditions can vary widely, from bone dry, to muddy, to icy. Be prepared.
There will be two aid stations, one at the start and one at about 4 miles into the loop. The park’s Nature Center will be open, so you can change after the race, rest, eat, and tell war stories. Don’t forget to bring dry clothes and shoes.
If anyone wants to carpool let me know.
Manfred
By the way, I have a lightly used pair of trail running shoes that doesn’t fit me very well. They are Adidas Brahma, size 12 ½, regular width. I will give them away for free, otherwise I will drop them into Camille’s used shoe drum.
