Brandi Chastain, captain of the WUSA champion San
Jose CyberRays, is scheduled to undergo knee surgery
Thursday to repair a cartilage tear in her left
knee.

Recovery from the arthroscopic procedure is expected to
take three to four weeks, according to team
physicians, which would cause her to miss the U.S. Women’s
National Team’s participation in the Algarve Cup
tournament in Portugal, to be played March 1-7, and early
preseason training with the CyberRays. But Chastain should
be ready for the CyberRays’ April 13 opening match
against the Boston Breakers in Spartan Stadium, which is
eight weeks away.

Chastain was diagnosed with a
tear in the medial meniscus resulting from an injury
in the 21st minute of the Feb. 10 WUSA World Stars
match in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The CyberRays
currently are in the midst of voluntary preseason training
and will begin their official preseason camp March 1
at West Valley College in Saratoga.

GET WELL
