Just a quick bit of info about the Spring Polaris for anyone who fancies
something different on the weekend of March 24th/25th. The event is based on
the mountain marathon format of competing over 2 days, but takes place on
mountain bikes instead of the usual bog trudge on foot.
The race start is anytime up to 10am on Saturday morning, and the first day
is a 7 hour score format, and the Sunday is a 5 hour score format. You'll
need to carry everything you need for the weekend including tent, cooking
equipment, food and survival gear, and you can do it solo or in a pair. The
exact venue for March's event hasn't been announced yet but it's broadly in
the Scottish Borders, and definitely not Galloway or Kielder according to
the website.
You can enter the race almost up until the event itself, but if you want to
guarantee yourself a laminated map for the event you'll need to enter in the
next week or two. Paper copies can be obtained but if you fancy fiddling
about in Scottish weather with cold hands and a wet paper map you're made of
sterner stuff than me!!
Riding is usually over a decent variety of terrain and this event is
promising some fun, technical riding off the beaten track. It's the perfect
warm down for anyone doing Edale Skyline the week before, and a good
loosener for anyone aiming for the Northern Road Relays the week after so
don't delay, get your entry in for a cracking weekend.
Oh, did I mention that the midway camp has beer for sale and a bonfire, what
more can you ask for?
Entry and more info online at polarischallenge.com
Cheers
Dave

Save energy and money. Utility rooms or corridors don’t need to be kept as warm as areas in which people spend long periods of time.
