Not too much going on with this board of late. But then, of
course, not too much going on of late with the actual Memphis
Grizzlies either. As anyone reading this should know, the Grizz did
indeed finally make the playoffs last season. That was surely a sign
of progress, yet they didn't last long once they made it. And, always
a problem with "middle of the pack" teams, they no longer can count
on those early draft choices as a result of finishing at the bottom
of the league. Now this season, the Grizz were again off to a
terrible start (as so often in their history they have been). So
terrible, in fact, that prized "Coach of the Year" Hubie Brown was
lead to retire (Hubie cited health reasons for the retirement and,
while there may be some truth to that, IMO the lousy start also was a
factor). His replacement was Lionel Hollins, then Mike Fratello. I
don't know, maybe the front office should have stuck with Hollins,
Fratello seems to be one of these coaches who's been around a lot but
never really won anything. Anyway, the Grizz are still better than a
few teams such as the "New Orleans" Hornets and the (again awful post-
Jordan) Bulls but that's the NBA cellar.
As for me, this season I've been rooting for both the Grizz and
the Phoenix Suns. Have a little more time what with the NHL
strike/lockout, and this Italian-American is a fan of Coach Mike
D'Antoni (not just cause the Suns are winning). When there is a Grizz-
Suns matchup, as there will be, likely will be for the Grizz in
those. They can use the win more. Season's greetings to any and all
Grizz fans still here,
Anthony
