The Grizzlies recently picked up an early-season victory vs. one
of the particularly tough nemeses, the Los Angeles Lakers. No doubt
all the turmoil that surrounds the Lakers helped but in any case a
welcome win.
Still, the Grizz are only 3-4 in the current campaign. Not great
but on the other hand better than those long winless slides that
opened the last couple of seasons. The NBA schedule is a long one but
the Grizz will find (as did another favorite of mine, the Minnesota
Wild, last year in the NHL) that starting off right with some wins
tends to provide a cushion against the almost inevitable losing
streaks later on. At least it's not like the NFL, where the
Philadelphia Eagles had to start winning instantly to turn things
around after 2 losses.
Enjoyable to watch Hubie Brown back in the league, especially
when fellow "golden oldie" Larry Brown is with the other team (the
76ers, now the Pistons). We shall see what develops, maybe more posts
as things move along.
