Spalletti congratulates Inter 19-Feb-2007
Luciano Spalletti believes that there is no shame in losing out to Inter in
the Scudetto race. *"They are just too strong,"* he said.
The Giallorossi dropped to 14 points off the Serie A leaders after
Saturday's defeat to Empoli, but the Coach knows that his men have done all
they could to keep up with the Nerazzurri.
"This is definitely a strange championship, unfortunately it's impossible to
keep up with Inter," Spalletti told Sky Calcio Show.
*"We have done all we could, but they are too strong. I admit I would be
tempted to hope that I could somehow bring them bad luck,"* added the former
Udinese tactician.
*"We did not concede anything, although we could have maybe earned a few
more points against smaller sides like Ascoli. In any case, I want to
compliment Inter, they have shown that they deserve it.*
*"What do we need to be competitive? Three or four major signings, the
players' quality makes the difference."*
Roma host Lyon at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday in the Champions League
first knockout round and Spalletti is aware of the difficulties they will
face.
*"They are a very strong side, who are doing well in a difficult
championship like the French Ligue 1, which is less tactical but more
physical than ours.*
*"They have the right mentality and are winning a lot matches, as they
proved on Friday with their last-minute victory."*
The Coach also dismissed rumours suggesting there is a rift between him and
Francesco Totti, after the captain was replaced by Mirko Vucinic on
Saturday.
*"There is no problem at all, I substituted him in view of Wednesday. It
will not be easy for anyone to create problems between us, as I appreciate
him as a person, there is no rift in the dressing room,"* concluded
Spalletti.
