If I'm around, I'd do at least 2 legs of a tri. Perhaps I'll just do a
longer swim and run, and make it an Aquathlon...Out at Chena Lakes, I
hope?

Hello Swimmers!
Chena Lakes is warm, wet, and ready to go! I swam there last
weekend, and it's been a nice, toasty week, so I propose a little dip
on Sunday. Anyone interested in joining me? Whatever time works,
let's open it up for discussion, and we can carpool over there.
Also, as an alternative to swim practice on this coming Monday
evening (June 19th), my advisor is having a BBQ/Beverage-fest to
celebrate the 'successful' defense of his first PhD student, at 7pm at
his house. All (+ some)are invited, as long as you bring a meat to
BBQ (2 legs or less...) and something to coat the throat. Directions
will be handed out at the defense in the morning.
See you at the pool!
-Pieter
Hello Swimmers, I just thought I would send out a little notice, if anyone's interested in hearing a Steller (ha ha) talk on Monday, June 19th. My PhD defense is at 10am in the Board of Regents' room in Butrovich (@ UAF, of course!). The public portion of it shouldn't last more than an hour (~45-50 minutes presentation + questions), and I'll even be bringing some cookies for people to chomp on while they watch me sweat. Everyone's
invited. Cheers, Pieter

Hello Swimmers!
Yes, it's also that time of the year again- migrations, moves, and
merry endeavors southward. In this spirit, I decided to have an
'everything-must-go' sale! The following items are up for auction:
Mini Boom-box (CD + radio)
TV/VCR Combo (14" screen)
Desk Chair (Black leather, high back, with rollers. Comes w/plastic mat)
Bar Stool (yes, just one)
Pots & Pans (Pick & Choose, mix-n-match if you like!)
Dishes (high-quality fiestaware. 5 large plates, 5 small plates, & 5 bowls)
Silverware (Yes, the real thing; Yamazaki Hafnia; Awesome stuff!)
Wine glasses (12- practically brand new)
Rubbermaid drawers (4 large)
Air Purifier (get ready for the smoke!!)
-Anything else you can imagine...my soul, perhaps? It's on sale!!
Let me know.
Cheers,
Pieter
Hi Gang,
Saturday practice will be per the old schedule: Patty Center Pool,
9-11am. This will be the case for the rest of the summer, and we'll
be back on the M/W 7-8:30pm times next week.
See you at the pool!
-Pieter
Speaking of relatively consistent, I was visiting my relatives over
Memorial Day, and some of them are consistently annoying.
I will be making my play to rise to the level of fully consistent by
showing up with my mountain bike at the Patty Center at 5:30, assuming
it's not pouring down rain (or would I have to show up in the rain to be
fully consistent?).

Hello Swimmers,
We will be at Patty pool again Thursday morning, 7am, for those who
which to join us. We will try to get a Saturday morning slot, as well
(9-11am), but I'll get back to you on that. FYI, the pool is crystal
clear, and they actually fixed a few things this time!
Hope to see you there!
-Pieter
Hi Gang!
So, the rumor is true, and the Patty pool is indeed opening early
(at least according to Tyrone!). So, I propose a little celebration
swim tomorrow morning to test the waters- 7am, Patty pool, Tuesday May
30th. It'll be lap swim, but I'll put together a workout. Join us if
you can!
For future swimming endeavors, I think perhaps the morning may be
good for now (rest of this week)? Back to the regular M/W/Sa routine
next week? Please feel free to discuss.
Cheers,
Pieter
But isn't consistency based on perspective? I would argue that consistency can not be measured by the consistent day to day interactions of people, places and things. On the subject of consistency, I am going to be consistently absent from any sort of consistent swim team member outings until the end of June. Enjoy the spring! I hope it is consistently lovely for you all!

I think the term "relatively consistent" was in full effect for the "few" people who were participating in the mtn bike rides this last week. Sorry about our flakiness.

A touch more on the biking options. A few of us have been relatively consistent about meeting at the Patty Center on Wednesdays at 5:30pm. Bring a mtn bike as we tend to stay off the road. Gerken

Hello Swimmers!

A few of us will be meeting tonight at the Patty Center around 5:30 pm for a mtn bike ride. I imagine we will pedal for around an hour and a half to two hours. The route is undecided at the moment. Be prepared to get muddy. Gerken

Hi all,
Weather permitting, I would definitely like to do some extended multi-hour activity at least one of the days this weekend, especially since I'm going to be in the lower 48 over Memorial Day weekend. So, if you'd be up for biking/hiking/paddling/etc please let me know and perhaps we could line something up. Maybe an outing to the Chena hot springs area?

Hi Gang,
The swimming schedule until June 5th (tentatively) is as follows:
This Friday, May 19th, 7:15-8:45am at Hamme Pool.
Then, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:15-8:30am at the FAC/The
Alaska Club. Hamme is $3.75, FAC is $3.00.
-I will certainly be trying out Chena Lakes come Memorial Day
weekend. Any and all are welcome to test the waters with me. I'll
send out another message to that effect near the end of the month.
Until then, be well, do good work, and play hard!
-Pieter
Well, I need to swim at least once more this week if I'm going to be in
a meet Saturday, so I will be at Hamme tonight at 6:00 - 6:50. I
encourage others to join me. Hopefully more than two lanes will be
open, since their official schedule says they have 4 lanes designated
for lap swim:

Hope to see you there,
