Hi Robbie,

I knew about the Northern Aquatics Chena Lakes triathlon (http://www.runningclubnorth.org/rcn_dta6.htm#NAT) on Sunday (but RCN website says too late to enter). What is the Chena Splash Saturday? Or did you mean Sunday?

Hi all,

Because we are hosting the Chena Splash Saturday, there will be no
workout at the Patty Pool. There is still time to sign up for the
event. Even if you don't want to swim, if you can make it out to the
Chena Lakes, volunteers would be greatly appreciated. We'll have some
extra boats there for people to kayak around and keep people on course.
If you'd like to volunteer, someone will be out there by 8 a.m., and the
event starts at 9 and we should be done by 11.

Thanks,
Robbie

Never mind. I found the link to Chena Splash website with a google search. Drew did mention this to me weeks ago and I forgot. Running the Valkyries instead.

Hello everyone,

This fall we're going to offer stroke work during Wednesday evening practices.
Stroke work practices will focus on technique for the competitive swimmer from
the novice to the more experienced. This will be a great opportunity for people
who haven't been in the water for a while as well as those who might be new to
the sport to try out masters practices. It will be also benefit current masters
swimmers who might have less than perfect technique!

There will still be a practice on the board for those interested in a workout.
The first stroke work practice will be this evening. Please pass this one to
anyone who might be interested.

Hi everybody,

Sorry for short notice, but I'm going to be back in Fairbanks this weekend from Saturday night until Tuesday morning. I thought I might be able to swim with the team on Monday but then I remembered it's Labor Day. Plus I also know (a few) people in Fairbanks who don't swim, so it might be nice to include them too.

So..anyone interested in catching a beer or dinner on Sunday night? Perhaps Silver Gulch in Fox, 8ish?

Hi,

We will not have workout on Oct. 2 at our regular time of 10-12.
Tomorrow the UAF team has their intrasquad meet at noon, and they will
take the pool for an extended warmup at 10:30. The age group team has
the pool from 8-10. Scott thinks the Blue-Gold meet will be done within
an hour, so he agreed to let us have the pool right after the meet until
2:00 p.m., when another team comes in. So, please come volunteer at the
meet from 11:45 - 1, and then we'll work out from 1-2.

Scott is up for an Alumni/Masters meet with his team. Saturdays are the
most convenient for his swimmers. Optimum dates are Nov. 13 and 20, but
Sam Zinsli will be out of town on those Saturdays (and she really wants
to participate). Oct. 30 is a possibility. Is there any interest in a
dual meet with the UAF team on October 30? Please get back to me with
your thoughts soon, as that's only 4 weeks from tomorrow.

Thanks,
Robbie

Hi Swimmers -

it's almost that time of year again... relay time!

The 2010 Hour of Power Relay in honor of my good friend Ted Mullin will take
place on November 9th. This is a Tuesday, sI propose that we do it on November
10th during our evening practice. This is a fundraising event, although that is
neither the primary goal, nor an obligation.

I also added an attachment flyer with more information and below is an email
from Carleton College's swimming Coach, Andy Clark - one of the event
organizers.

Many thanks in advance for taking some time to become acquainted with the event.
Ted Mullin was a very special friend of mine and it means a lot to me and in
particular, to his mom, Mary Henry, that we remember him this way!

Dear Fellow Swim Coach,

Please accept this email as an invitation to you and your swim team(s) to sign
up and participate in the FIFTH annual Ted Mullin "Leave it in the Pool – Hour
of Power" Relay for Cancer Research. This year's event will be held on Tuesday,
November 9, 2010.

Over the past four years, the "Hour of Power" relay swim-a-thon broke
participation records as it's grown into a nationwide event experienced and
shared among thousands of participants who swim on college, high school, and
club teams. In 2009, the "Hour of Power" relay event involved 134 swim teams
across the country.

Last year, the nearly 6500 participating student-athletes combined to raise
$78,000 in funds to support research aimed at finding cures and treatments to
fight sarcoma. Since 2006, the four "Hour of Power" relay events have raised
more than $190,000!

A primary goal of the event is to raise awareness and generate funds for
research conducted at the University of Chicago into finding treatments and
cures for sarcoma, the type of soft-tissue cancer that took the life of Carleton
swimmer, Ted Mullin '06, and afflicts the lives of many young people.

While fundraising is a fundamental element to this cause, your team's
participation is extremely valuable even if you are unable to raise funds.
Ultimately, we hope that your team will join us in a great effort toward the
fight against sarcoma!

The "Hour of Power" relay swim-a-thon is open to all collegiate, high school,
club, masters, and other interested swimming and diving teams. We ask that all
interested programs register by Friday, October 8, so that essential information
about this year's event can be sent to you and your team.

To sign up for the Ted Mullin "Hour of Power" relay and to find out more
information on this event, please use the following link:

http://go.carleton.edu/HourOfPower

*Please share the information at this site with your swimmers and especially
with the other coaches in your conference or area and encourage their
participation*

I look forward to your team joining the Carleton Knights along with so many
other swim teams for another exciting and inspiring Ted Mullin "Leave it in the
Pool – Hour of Power" relay event. Should you have any questions regarding this
event, please feel free to contact Rick Mullin (rmullin9@...) or me. On
behalf of the Mullin family and the Carleton College swim teams, thank you for
your support and involvement.

Best wishes to you and your team(s) for a rewarding swimming and diving season!

We realize it is the weekend before finals, but it will only take an hour or two, and I highly doubt anyone would be studying at that time anyhow. I know I never did.  :-p  How would this work for everyone?
