I will be swimming at Hamme on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:30-8:00am until the Patty Center opens up again. Any body up for trying out some open water swimming this weekend at Chena Lakes? let me know!
Hi,
We're meeting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the Patty Center to do a 40-mile
or so road bike ride.
Starting next week Hamme is pretty much the only game in town for lap
swim, and the only times 4 or more lanes are open are:
M-F 6:00 - 7:30 a.m. (6 lanes)
M-F 6:00 - 6:50 p.m. (4 lanes)
M-F 12:00 - 12:45 p.m. (6 lanes)
Sat 12:00 - 1:50 p.m. (6 lanes)
Since I know I won't get up early enough to make 6:00 a.m. any other day
but Monday, here's my plan:
M - 6-7:30 a.m.
W - 6:00 - 6:50 p.m.
F - 12-12:45 p.m.
I'm open to suggestions.

Just wanted to give you some more details for this Friday at our place for Pieter.
Sara and I will have some buffalo burgers, grilled salmon, tabbouleh, and some beer. So to complement this it would be nice if some people brought some fruit, veggies, desert, and other things to throw on the BBQ. As well as more drinks will always be nice!

Doug,
For the next couple of weeks I'm going to shoot for 7:15 - 8:45 a.m. Tu,
Th, Fr. After that it really gets grim because the age-group teams take
four lanes at Hamme after 7:30 a.m. Maybe I'll swim at 6:00, but I'll
have to see how swimming at 7:15 a.m. goes.

Robbie,
I have been swimming with MSST in the mornings, but
their schedule will change in a couple of weeks and it
doesn't look good after that. Their evening sessions
will be really full (both junior and senior swimmers),
so there's probably no way to swim with them.
I may try to keep going to Hamme in the mornings.
What days/times are you thinking about.

Mary Siah will be closed from May 21-June 3, but otherwise has a lap swim
from 500-615pm Monday - Friday; Tuesday evenings half the pool is used for
lessons though. I'd rather not spend the time getting to and from a pool
so we can all squish into 2 lanes for 45 minutes (although after May 21 it
looks like the Hamme pool opens to 4 lanes...). I have been neglecting my
bicycle lately, I think this would be a good time to get reacquainted and
I will resume swimming when our pool opens again. Thats just my
non-dedicated point of view though, perhaps others feel differently... Skye
Swim in the river! I am recruiting for a swim team in Emmonak. Tryouts begin on June 4.

Considering that the pool will be closed to us once again this weekend,
do I have anyone interested for a couple hour ride? Start at the Patty
Center at 9:00am and head out to Chena Ridge to Isberg, head down the
hill to cripple creek and back up again to Isberg and around to Chena
pump....

Dave Leonard and I decided that a fun thing to do this Saturday since we don't have swimming would be to go for a bike ride. So, weather permitting, we'll meet at 9:30 at the Patty Center and do a 30-miler or so: Sheep Creek/Goldstream/Old Steese/McGrath/Farmers Loop. If you can make it, please join us. It'll be a leisurely ride at the pace of whomever shows up (and you can always bail at
Ballaine if you'd like).

Hello All,
Here are the details for the FAST Winter Triathlon. The Patty Center
will be open by 8:50 am so that you can get into the locker room to
store your belongings. We will be starting at the ski hut with a

Hope to see you all there!!! Including RJ I hope.

Hey FASTer,
At the annual meeting i floated the idea of resurrecting the midnight
sun meet at Patty this summer, sometime near the solstice. There was a
fair amount of enthusiasm. And some even fondly remembered having
age-group meets at Patty back in the 80s. I certainly have great
memories of those meets. With the new timing system installed, Patty
should be race-ready. I havent checked with Scott yet, but last month
he did offer to run a meet for us. At the very least we would need to
get use of the timing equipment and AKMS could likely donate some $ to
Northern Area Swimming to run the meet. I would really like to see it
at Patty instead of Hamme though.
So is there any interest up there in putting on the meet? I am willing
to work on getting it sanctioned and coordinating the set up.
I remember some FASTers saying that having the meet the same day of
the Midnight Sun Run was not a good idea. However, the out-of-towners
seemed to want to coordinate the meet with the events of that weekend.
I suppose we could have an evening meet on Friday. Any thoughts or
ideas?
Let me know what you think. If there is any interest whatsoever, i'll
get ahold of Scott and see if he is interested.

Robbie and I are considering entering the Fairbanks Literacy Council's spelling bee under the banner of FAST Masters. We both like spelling things. If you are similarly inclined and would like to join us, we're looking for one more teammate.
The spelling bee is 7pm February 15 at the Westmark Gold Room. Teams of 3 compete against each other, and the teams are allowed to confer with one another when spelling a word. The kicker is the cost....$350 per team, but it's considered a donation to the literacy council and is therefore tax deductible.
We need to know by this afternoon. Sorry for the late noice
So, if you rock the dictionary, let one of us know.
