Well, I have received a few responses on favored dates for an open water
swim next summer, and they were all different. So, I'll summarize the
leading candidates and indicate the one I'll go with unless I hear a lot
more opinions otherwise:

June 20 - Advantage: lots of visitors already in Fairbanks, so we might
get more out-of-town participants. Disadvantages: Lots of other things
going on might decrease participation; water may still be pretty chilly.

June 27 - Advantages: not much schedule conflict; Pieter and Jenny
likely to come up. Disadvantages: Still kind of early, water might be
chilly and not much else to draw people.

July 18 - Advantages: Water should be warm; in between Sourdough Tri
and Pennock Island, and can be billed as "tune-up" for the latter.
Disadvantages: Not much going on in town to draw others, and it's the
weekend before Golden Days, a big draw of visitors.

July 25 - Advantages: The day before the Northern Area Aquatics
triathlon, so might draw people interested in both. Disadvantage:
Would conflict with Golden Days parade (and the the Golden Mile).

I am leaning towards June 27, mainly so Pieter and Jenny could swim it.
My second choice would be July 18.

I'm still interested in input, but we need to decide on something in the
next few days.
