Fifth-seeded Rita Grande of Italy won her
first-round match Tuesday at the $170,000 Wismilak
International hardcourt event.<br>Grande, 26, beat Yoon-Jeon
Cho of Korea, 6-4, 6-3, to set up a second-round
encounter with Jing-Qian Yi of China, who defeated
Australian Nicole Pratt on Monday.<br>Grande, who has three
career WTA doubles titles, captured her first singles
championship in Janaury at the ANZ Tasmanian International in
Australia.<br><br>Also Silvia Farina Elia and Francesca Schiavone have
both eased into the second round of the Sparkassen Cup
in Leipzig. <br>Farina Elia was made to work harder
than her fellow seed to see off German qualifier
Barbara Rittner. <br>The fifth seed was a break up in the
second set before Rittner fought back to level after
winning a tie-break. <br>But Farina maintained a steady
rhythm in the deciding set before closing out with her
first match point to win 6-4 6-7 (2-7) 6-4.
<br>Schiavone defeated Tulyaganova 7-5,6-1.
