I am new to this forum, my question is my new Burley d'lite has a bar that hooks
to a traditional bike on a 45 degree angle at the chainstay, its at a 45 so that
it never hits the tire of a traditional bike in turns, there is my problem, with
about a 10 degree turn it hits the tire of the usx, have you had this problem?
plz share your thoughts, THX!

Has any one put a hub motor on the front wheel? And has there been too much wheel flop from it?

it is that time of year again.  we made one trip so far this year but a wheel bearing went bad in one wheel in the wagon causing drag (and us to pedal very hard) so next trip we will bring less bags home. (we can't find the right size bearing in illinois including chicago so i have installed special grease and it is like the old fashion farm and freight wagon wheels running on the axle grease applied every time the old dries out.  it is only a couple of miles over to the garden center and not any hills. just a couple of small grades. yes the stoker supplies some of the power but the captain most, since he has lower yet gears, and lower age in his favor. i worked the main 'raised bed' garden this afternoon and applied last years compost, and after a couple of days i will be up to working the second smaller raised bed garden spot though need more compost and soil there.  however it will not be completed but usable, before this season begins. this fall's compost should finish it up for next spring. i am leaning strongly in the direction of a 80cc gas engine hooked into the gearing, for the lead trike, installed for $450, which would help these tired old bones up hill and on longer drives when our power fizzles and we are not yet home. this would keep many mile off the car making it last longer though haven't figured out how many summers of driving the trikes to pay for the up front cost then become cheap transportation.

Hello again, I will take pics tommorrow I had an injection into my neck today so I am not feeling to good. But I will tell you it is in very new condition I bought it and only put on 40 miles. As far as the price goes I paid, for the bike and behind seat basket, 1350 so I was hoping to get $1100 back, that comes out to $6.50 per mile that I put on.

happy,
the motor ran fine on to walmart and half way back then quit working. i checked all the terminals and they were tight so we pedaled home in the lowest gears with the wife complaining 'we are going to slow', and oh how hard it was, counting the 18 mph head winds and and the 30 extra pounds i put on this winter along with her purchases.  i had pedaled the ez-1 sx, two wheeler with fairing over to walmart and got around 30 pounds of groceries before lunch and put most in a giant size insulated bag (a Sam's Club insulated bag) (thought it was going to tear when i lifted it onto the back of the recumbent. Delores couldn't lift it at home) and tied the works on the back. wow, what a balancing difference that made with the weight higher up and several liters of liquid on board. back at home i put your charger on and it charged 1 3/4 hour then said full charge by the green light.  we had started with a full charge and ran only 3 miles pedaling with the motor, so maybe something is drawing to much charge out of the new batteries or a short somewhere, as loud pop in plugging it into the controller but no lights at the controller or hand switch when turned on, like before.   i built a box over the front wheel this afternoon on the usx, so we can change the location of the battery to over the front wheel Friday, making it easier for us (and thieves) to get at for charging, removing and inspections.
i will have the check for you for the new charger friday when you come up.  to bad my faulty charger was at apparent reason for my first set of batteries going bad after only 3 months of good use, as you determined, but i am sure when the guy drove it with the brake on it must have damaged something to a degree.  that is why i didn't try to get any warranty claim besides the time ran out so didn't try there though i did complained to 5 Flags hoping they could walk me through some method of finding the problem but he was only concerned about warranties it seems. i think there is still a problem as why would it be running fine then nothing, instead of loosing power like a normal run down in a slow process.  i have confidence you will be able to help me find the problem as that kind of problem, along  with my limited knowledge & vision for working on things along with my limited leg power for pedaling alone, causes me to think i should get a hand trike to put on the front of Delores's trailing trike, as i have lots of power in my arms and forget the motor, but we have come a long way and can't stop now in the 'find the problem' process.
happy, would you take some more photos of your trike with the solar panel charging process for the batteries and write a story how you got the sun ez-3 usx, and modified it because of your disability and made it into your own easy to use trike along with something about the parades you have ridden in and send to Laurie 'wo' Smith, address above, and maybe she can find a space for it in the ERRC magazine.  she is really the best editor i have ever came across. you will find no mistakes in your printed story.   i added two of the photos i took yesterday to this letter though i should have had another one a little further back. i am not sure these pictures are going through though, as they been attaching for a very long time and still doing it but i am going to try to send it anyway,

Bought a new USX at the club winter swapmeet. I like it way more than I never thought I could put up with a 65lb bike. Removed the clattery chaintubes. Mounted Big Apples all around. Using Azonics Fusion flat platform pedals with the little gripper nubs. USX rides secure, quiet and cushiony now.

have made some major upgrades.

Let me know if you are interested.

mitch, i am not selling my usx, it is my only and best usx, 3 years old this coming June.  i am looking for another used usx myself as with my arthritic back i need the suspension it provides.  at the present i have a ez-3 sx that my wife rides and attaches to the back of my usx via an arnold coupling.  when we come down the hill from shopping uptown we get over 20 mph which a usx will handle safer than a sx.

the confusion may have come from an e-mail stating an electric usx for sale in Texas but the photos proved it to be a sx and not a usx. electric assist is ideal for folk my age and older as well as for an handi cap disability which i have in that with spinal stenosis my legs not have the strength anymore and the feet are in almost constant pains from mild to very strong stabbing pains.

i wish you luck in your search as i also am searching for a used one.  from what i have gathered the 2009 usx's no longer have the spring suspension in them.

do you have any other recumbents?  are you a recumbent rider? i am always interested in sharing recumbent riding stories with folk all over the country along with photos.  if you are interest in sharing stories just let me know.

Murphy's law seems to require me to work on the best longer distant riding days available, but i manage to get my share in, though would like more.  i have not found a way yet to be required to work on cold and rain days leaving the sunny days open for riding only.

i am sending this to my recumbent riding friends in case they know someone with a used usx for sale.

Terry

we frequently drive to WI to ride the trails. If you are interested in
this trike, I would be happy to deliver it to you, since we would be
coming there to ride anyway.

Let me know.

Terry,

I have a new USX that I want to sell. I purchased it in Nov. and have
ridden it less than 200 miles. I have modified it by adding a 4th
chainring, a mountain tamer. It is a 16 tooth chainring that gives a
very low gear inch. I have also added a 11 - 34 chainwheel on the back
with upgraded rear derialleur, upgraded front derialleur and chain
cranks. I don't have the specifications for the upgraded components
right now as I'm taking the trike to a bike shop on 10 March to have
it fine tuned. I will get the details from the bike shop then.
Currently the rear derialleur is a long cage and I'm replacing it with
a short cage to give more ground clearance.

I was not satisfied with the single wheel drive and the ground
clearance of the rear derailleur where I ride. I cannot get out of my
shop and down the driveway without making contact with the ground.

I have ordered a Greenspeed Anura from Utah Trikes with a Shrumph
drive and Alfine transmission.

I paid $1600 for this trike and I would sell it for the same amount
with all of the upgrades included for free. It is a much better trike
then original. With the very low gearing it makes it very easy to
climb hills. It just will not climb the dirt roads that I want to
ride. The front wheel jumps to the left on the very steep dirt hills.
I have no trouble on the pavement.

I can even deliver to you for gas expenses if you wish. I live in
Bethesda, AR with is just outside of Batesville, AR.

It will be ready for sale after 10 March. Let me know.

Dennis

They are few and far in between, but I will keep an eye open for you. Several of my friends also want one now as well. Best of Luck!

Anybody in the Midwest have a USX they would like to sell?

My wife rode a Terra Trike for a few years, but her health is
declining, so I would like to buy her a USX to hook up as a tandem this
summer.

terry, i have a usx but not for sale. as is my favorite trike, have my wife riding on an EZ-3 sx hooked on behind but would like to find an used usx myself as the 2008 and earlier usx's have a spring in the frame easing our rides.  turning quick on a sx will tip but the usx really is stable.  my wife has dementia and on medications which causes her to steer off into danger every once in a while so with the tandem set up she can ride and pedal safely behind me. i have a coupling made by gary arnold which works well.
i will kep your address and if i spot one i will let you know.  we are in our 70's and semi retired but love riding and use them for errands around home.  we live in moline, illinois.

You can certainly remove the chain guard. The chain has a removable link, just
pay close attention to chain routing when disassembling.

Additionally, there are numerous options available for handlebar extensions, as
the USX handlebars are standard 1" tube steel. Check with your local bike shop
for options.

I'd rather have the brake levers and shift barrels horizontal. Is there a bar
with horizontal nubs that allow such a remounting?
