Response to Andy Schlosser regarding the Duelee Hitch Carrier.
Top of the Afternoon, Andy:
Hopefully I have not misled you in any way regarding the Duelee Hitch Carrier. I did not design or build it. This is a custom carrier designed and built by Van Guard Machine at 618-692-4702 to solve a problem for me. The Duelee Hitch Carrier is scheduled to be available for sale about April 15, 2008 . The pictures are of the proto type and it works great for me.
Andy: Instead of going to bed, I was motivated to quickly draw up my design idea in Sketchup. It's a 3D model.
Andy: My concerns are (and should be common to Draftmaster in general)
Andy: what prevents the rack from swaying side to side about the hitch? some kind of tie-in to the roof rack?
Duelee Carrier does not sway back and forth in any direction. There is no tie-in to the roof rack. Carrier is self contained.
Andy: some kind of angle reinforcement between the hitch insert and the vertical tube on the rack
There is a 45 degree brace.
Andy: draftmaster includes another long vertical support vertical gusset plate?
I am not familiar with the draftmaster design.
Andy: how to vertically support the red BikeE?
The design of the Duelee at this time is only for the EZ-1 or EZ-3 Series.
Andy: how does the clamp on your rack work? Turn the T-bar and screws into a threaded insert?
Yes
Andy: Spring loaded?
No
Andy: I'd love to explore these concepts a little more if anyone else is interested, I will be on BentRider Online too. I'm tired of stuffing the USX inside the car all the time and digging out the trailer is not trivial for daily use. Major PITAs.
I agree about major PITA. This carrier responds to the weight, mobility, and transport issue of the EZ-3 Series. Roll Trike up to carrier, raise front vertically, clamp to carrier, Crank it up. Away you go. I also have a Magnum Tray Carrier for two trikes and a trailer for five USX’s. By far this set up is the best for me.
Have a great day!
Jake
