I like the hand crank lowering the rack, eliminating the need to pick up the entire weight of the bike. I'm able to pick the weight up, so this can be a big design reduction for me. My initial thoughts for the rack tend towards using this loading scheme with the rear wheels still at the bottom http://www.members.shaw.ca/gmerkley/bent/Rack.htm, but with this kind of rack frame http://www.cabinwood.net/DraftmasterRack/
John, you've obviously chosen a completely different approach that uses a lot less metal, so I'm interested in exploring your design more.

I had this made to carry two USX Trikes. It will also carry the SX or
AX as well as the EZ 1 series.
Just roll your trike to the hitch, rise it vertically, alaign, clamp
and turn the handle to raise the whole affair.
I used it on my trip to Florida. Worked great.
