Looks like our Greenspeed GT3 is similar in shape to the WhizWheelz
Cruiser, and the Actionbent trike. As I rode 4 miles this evening with
my wife, her on the Greenspeed and me on the Sun EZ3-USX, I noticed
her head was a good foot to a foot and a half closer to the ground
than mine. That's one key difference. On the bright side, being lower
in a more reclined seat reduces wind resistance. On the other hand, my
wife can't get out of the Greenspeed without my help. Another
difference is between the delta shape (2 wheels in back and 1 in
front) of the Sun EZ3-USX and the tadpole shape (2 wheels in front and
1 in back) of the others. Cheap tadpoles can be "twitchy", which is
unsettling when barreling downhill. Bike weight can also be a factor.
The Sun EX3-USX weighs 65#. The Greenspeed under 40#. So if you're the
one on the Sun and your wife on a lighter bike, be sure you're as
strong as her, or she'll be waiting on you the whole way. In our case
the added weight is actually an advantage, in that it slows me down
some and gives me more of a workout than I would otherwise get from
riding with my wife.
Any of these bikes should be _easily_ capable of doing 50 miles a day
for GOBA. If it were me, the thing I'd want most would be fenders,
because it's almost certain to rain at least one day during a summer
week in Ohio, and riding in the rain without fenders turns you into a
mud monster in no time at all.
If you ride a Sun EZ3-USX and any tadpole trike, you'll know within a
couple of minutes which you prefer. My wife very strongly preferred
the Sun EZ3-USX until after we already had both bikes. She then gave
the tadpole design another try, and liked how much faster she was on a
lighter lower bike, even though she still needs help getting out of it.
Anyone else have an opinion on this for Mike?
