Saturday was a prefect day to ride my USX. The sun was out and there
was not a cloud in the sky. Little or no wind. My wife and I
decided a 50 mile ride was in order. We quickly rode through the
towns of Rocklin and Roseville, CA. We were headed for the American
River Bike Trail in Sacramento, CA. Once on the bike trail it's 33
miles long one-way. The American River Bike Trail is basically flat
except near Folsom, Ca. The trail has two steep but short
downhills. Blasting down one downhill the trail was litered with
broken beer/wine bottles. Glass everywhere, but we were not worried
because our trikes had Airfree tires. This hill was 200 yards long
with a tight right blind curve. You never know what to expect going
around it at high speed. Today was our lucky day. It was clear of
people.
By the time we rode 15 miles on the trail it was time to turn around
and head home. The distance ridden was 35 miles so far, and we both
were getting tired and hungry. So we turned on our gas power-assist
to get us home. Having a Honda 50cc engine on my USX sure helps
going up those steep hills I had just ridden down.
This is always fun to ride with the power-assist on. On going up
hills cars will slow and watch me coast up the hills at 25 mph. Some
cars stop at the top of hills and cheer us on or ask questions about
power-assist riding. I try to encourage people to ride bikes. You
know, get them out of their cars and ride. If they ride to work with
a power-assist it will pollute less than a V8 power SUV. Every
little bit of Green is good for our planet.
Well the wife wants me to ride over to the market to pick up a few
items for dinner. I live on the top of a big hill so it's coast down
to the store and power-assist home.
Ride safe everyone.
