Folding recumbent trike   Message List

One limitation of our Sun EZ3-USX is that it can't quickly be folded
into a package small enough to fit in the back seat of a small car.
Normally, that's not a problem for my wife its primary user, as she
uses it only on streets and bike paths easily accessible from our home.

It would be a problem for my own riding, however, as I often start my
bike rides far from home, and often use public transportation along
the way. For that reason, the recumbent trike we are adding this
Christmas is not a second Sun EZ3-USX. Rather, it is a Greenspeed GT3,
which quickly folds small enough to fit into the back seat of even a
Toyota Echo.

Folding a GT3 involves removing one Allen bolt to lift off the seat,
and then opening a quick-release frame clamp similar to the ones on
our Dahon folding bikes. Unlike some trikes that can be folded, the
chain stays on as the bike is folded.

Compared to the Sun, the Greenspeed is a tadpole (2 wheels in front)
design, rather than a delta (2 wheels in back) design. It weighs just
over half as much (37.5#, rather than 65#), has 16" rather than 20"
wheels all around, and its seat is lower to the ground (which I like
and my wife doesn't.) It also costs more than twice as much.

Not to worry: we'll both still be riding our Sun EZ3-USX, and I'll
still be here. Just wanted to report the new addition here first
before posting anything about it in another Yahoo group.

Greenspeed's Website is here: http://www.greenspeed.com.au/gt3.html
