Eric Snow's Father-Son One-On-One was one part of the 2001-
02 "Eric's Challenge."
The National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI) honored Eric Snow, team co-
captain of the Philadelphia 76ers, as a recipient of a 2002
Fatherhood Award. The presentation of the award took place in San
Antonio, Texas, the evening of June 11th as NFI hosted its 5th
Fatherhood Awards Gala Dinner.
Roland C. Warren, NFI President elaborated, "Eric Snow is a high
profile figure, in an arena where role models can have a great
impact. In addition to being an involved, committed father to his own
sons, he has used his celebrity to directly promote responsible
fatherhood in the Philadelphia community. Eric is an example of how
being a good Dad and a professional sports star should go hand in
hand."
Snow has just completed his seventh NBA season and fourth consecutive
year as team co-captain of the 76ers. In 2000, the NBA recognized his
work in the community with the NBA Sportsmanship Award. Snow
created "Eric's Challenge," including a Steals and Assists donation
program whereby he donates money for every steal and assist. This
year, he expanded "Eric's Challenge" to include "The Father-Son One-
on-One" program, providing tickets to every 76ers home game for a
father-son duo and auctioning, to benefit charity, father-son outings
with Snow and his oldest son, E.J.
Inaugurated in 1997, the Fatherhood Awards are presented each year to
men, women and organizations who, by virtue of their accomplishments,
contributions or the example they set in their everyday lives, make a
substantial contribution to strengthening involved, responsible, and
committed fatherhood.
Previous Fatherhood Award winners include: actors Tom Selleck and
Stephen Collins; journalist, Tim Russert; singer, Tim McGraw; and
Olympic athletes, Marty Nothstein and Michael Weiss.
This year's Fatherhood Awards Gala Dinner, was held in conjunction
with the 5th Annual National Summit on Fatherhood and took place at
7:30 p.m., June 11, at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio on the Riverwalk
at Paseo del Alamo.
The premier fatherhood organization in the country, NFI is a non-
partisan, non-sectarian civic initiative working to promote involved,
responsible and committed fatherhood in every sector of society and
