76ers 87, SuperSonics 77

By JIM COUR, AP Sports Writer

SEATTLE
(AP) - Allen Iverson started slowly and shot poorly
but finished with 22 points to lead the Philadelphia
76ers to an 87-77 victory Friday night over Seattle
that snapped the SuperSonics' six-game winning streak.

Iverson, who shot 1-for-6 and had three points in the
first quarter, played 43 minutes and shot 8-for-21 as
the 76ers won their second straight game on their
longest road trip of the season - seven games in 12 days.

Derrick Coleman had 14 points and 10 rebounds for
Philadelphia, while Matt Harpring had 14 points and Aaron McKie
added 12 points.

The Sonics, who had been off
for six days, looked ragged against the defending
Eastern Conference champs, shooting 38 percent and
committing 20 turnovers. They were led by 15 points each
from Rashard Lewis and Shammond Williams.

Gary
Payton, who had 13 points for Seattle, was taken out of
the game with 4:58 left and the 76ers ahead 83-64.

The 76ers took a 70-54 lead into the final quarter
and were ahead 72-61 after a five-footer by Lewis
with 10:14 left. McKie hit a 3-pointer, Eric Snow made
a layup and Iverson put in 15- and 10-footers to
put Philadelphia in front 81-61 with 7:55 left.

Ahead 49-40 at halftime, the 76ers took a 58-42 lead
early in the third quarter with a 9-0 run, including
five points by Iverson. The Sonics got to 61-51 before
the 76ers scored nine of the last 12 points of the
period to go ahead by 16 points at the end of the
quarter.

Dikembe Mutombo had a two-handed dunk
with 3:23 left and Speedy Claxton drove around Vin
Baker for a layup for Philadelphia with 1:47 to go in
the quarter.

The Sonics outrebounded the
76ers 47-41, with journeyman Art Long, filling in for
the injured Calvin Booth at center, getting nine.
Notes: The Sonics won't have Booth, who was supposed to
be their starting center this season, for at least
four more weeks. Booth will be out another month
because of a painful sprained right ankle that has
developed tendinitis. He has been on the injured list since
Dec. 12 and had his right ankle placed in a protective
booth Thursday. Booth signed a $34 million, six-year
contract as a free agent in August. ... The Sonics
activated center Jerome James from the injury list Friday
after he missed 20 games with a sprained right foot.
James played 11 minutes, didn't score a point, got one
rebound and had four blocked shots.
