Normally people know me to be on the optimistic side when trying to persuade people that Portobello is a fantastic place to swim because normally it is. Also over the last few years the quality of the beach, the water and the wild-life has dramatically improved.
However after walking along the beach on Monday night at low tide I was kind of put-off by a kind of Jelly-like slime (very slippy) that was on the sand. This got progressively worse the further west along the beach I went. I'm afraid I've never seen anything like that on the beach before and can only guess that it might be something to do with the sewage spill. This might not be a surprise based on the amount of sewage and the proximity.
I understand that SEPA latest position is that people should avoid taking things like shell away from the beach. I'm not sure if this is due to contamination problems.
I think I might leave it a couple of weeks or till at least the slime disappears from the beach.
cheers Bruce

Yes - appears that there are a number of us keen enough to take on the fresh waters of the Forth again this Friday - see you there 6.30 (ish)...
