Representatives from the 2009 World Outgames in Copehagen, Denmark will be participating in this year's San Francisco Pride Festival, and available to answer any questions you might have. Marc Northern, Communications and Marketing Director for Outgames 2009 has flown in from Denmark and will be manning the Copenhagen World Outgames booth, located in Civic Center on the Pride Festival grounds in front of the Asian Art Museum, Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29. You can contact Marc by email at marc@....
Unfortunately, Team SF has chosen not to support anyone attending the Copenhagen World Outgames next summer, so Marc is looking for some people to help organize the contingent of athletes and artists from the San Francisco Bay Area. If you're interested in either attending the Outgames or providing some leadership for the team, please see him this weekend!
Responses to this equipesf1@... email address will be very limited, so please be sure to contact Marc with any quesitons or issues.
It's a Yahoo problem happening to all Yahoo groups. Appears they have it fixed now.

No Gay Games? No Out Games? No track at the
Eurogames? No worries! Come to San Francisco, be ready to leave your heart beside the Golden Gate, and make this meet a success!
I've been following the recent news of last summer's Outgames, what a mess. They are millions and millions of dollars in the hole, more so than all the past Gay Games combined!!!
I discovered a very interesting chat board that discusses the Outgames financial disaster and the true reason Tourisme Montréal brought the Outgames to Montréal -- to position itself as a gay tourist destination. Wow.
From: "World Outgames 2009" <info@...> To: "Brian Jung" <bgj415@...> Subject: Press release
World Outgames 2009 Date: Tue, 21 Nov 2006 14:58:08 +0100 (CET)
Copenhagen prepares for the World Outgames 2009
The World Outgames 2009 is taking shape in Copenhagen. The Danish capital was chosen to host the games long ago, but now the major international culture and sports event for gays and lesbians has the money to realise its plans. Copenhagen Council has committed DKK20m to the project, and Wonderful Copenhagen and UNIK HR have commenced the search for partners to spearhead the preparations.
In 2009 Copenhagen will
host the second World Outgames, the largest sports and cultural event Denmark will have ever hosted, with a greater number of participants than the Olympics. The event is comparable to the Olympics, but for gays and lesbians. Copenhagen was selected as the host city in 2005 but it is first now that the event has found the financial backing it needs. Copenhagen Council has pledged DKK20m to the project, which Wonderful Copenhagen has been instrumental in winning for the capital.
Copenhagen highlighted as an experience-rich metropolis - The World Outgames will be important in helping promote Copenhagen as an experience-rich metropolis and sporting capital. Now that we have the financial backing in place, we can begin the preparations to ensure a successful event, which will attract both the world’s press and international culture and sports societies. As well as this, the event will bring an increase in revenue and employment to the city and will give
Copenhageners the sense of living in a city where things happen, says CEO Lars Bernhard Jørgensen, Wonderful Copenhagen.
Director and project leader sought for the board The second World Outgames will take place in the summer of 2009 but, before that lies a great deal of work, not least the recruitment of the right people for the job. Wonderful Copenhagen has undertaken the initial research but after the New Year the project will be run as an Aps company with its own board. With this in mind, Wonderful Copenhagen together with UNIK HR is seeking the project team, which, together with other partners, will plan and run the World Outgames over the next three years.
The first priority is to find a director who will have overall responsibility for the board. The candidate will have a profile with broad experience and good contacts within the public and business worlds both nationally and internationally. The next task is to select project leaders to manage
the events and many activities.
The World Outgames has 35 different sports and cultural activities and in the run up to the event Copenhagen will also host a large people’s rights conference.

Salut!
The 1st World Outgames Montreal 2006 and International Right To Be Different Conference were absoultely magical and utterly amazing. Nearly 19,000 athletes, artists, participants, and volunteers from 111 participating countries, presentation of the Montreal Declaration on GLBT Rights by Martina Navratalova to the United Nations and the world, Opening and Closing Ceremonies at the Olympic Stadium with k.d. lang, Martha Wash, Cirque du Soliel, Liza Minelli, impeccably run athletic events with the higest degree of professionalism and efficiency, and an entire city, province, and nation that embraced us with warm and welcoming hospitality...it was truly a once in a lifetime celebration that left me invigorated, joyful, and with so many new friends from around the globe.
We took nearly 200 members of Equipe San Francisco to Montreal, and played, competed, sang, and performed our hearts out, and were rewarded with camraderie, exhilaration, fun, and memories to last a lifetime. We also brought home a pretty impressive haul of bling including 91 medals: 35 gold, 48 silver, and 8 bronze. Personally, I won gold in Men's Hammer and Javelin; siver in Discus and 500m Dragonboat Racing...two months after a partial rupture of my Achilles tendon!
Thank you to so many of you who supported us and helped us get there. Thank you to the wonderfully generous organizers, officials, and volunteers of the Montreal Outgames for a spectacular experience that beautifully captured and showcased all of the best that our global community is and can be. And finally, thank you to all of my teammates and fellow competitors for all of the love and support that you've shown to each other.
Please do enjoy the pics (slideshow mode is the best) and see you in Copenhagen in 2009!

Gay Games VII & Outgames Athlete Reception at GLBTHS
SAN FRANCISCO—Join Bay Area athletes to celebrate their achievements at Gay Games VII and the First World Outgames at “Cool Down, Warm Up,” a special reception at the GLBT Historical Society on Thursday, September 7th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This event will include the unveiling of Gay Games VII and Outgames additions to the Historical Society's acclaimed exhibit, “Sporting Life: GLBT Athletics and Cultural Change From the 1960s to Today.”
Raise a toast to Bay Area athletes and peruse “Sporting Life” for the new full set of medals, banners, team jackets, programs and other memorabilia from the big GLBT summer athletic extravaganzas. These artifacts have been added to the more than 400 items spanning four decades already displayed. Athletes are encouraged to share their Summer 2006 memories and wear their medals, team shirts, and jerseys.
“We’ve re-designed the exhibit to celebrate this thriving community’s latest achievements,” said guest curator Jim Provenzano. “GLBT athletes continue to make history, and some of the first teams, like the Gay Games itself, started right here in San Francisco.”
At the seventh Gay Games, held in Chicago July 15-22, more than 600 Bay Area participants marched into Soldier Field wearing official Team San Francisco jackets. Hundreds of competing athletes won medals in each of the more than 30 sports that took place in Chicago. Since San Francisco hosted the first two Gay Games (in 1982 and 1986) Bay Area participants have most often been the largest of U.S. contingents at each of the quadrennial Games. More than 50 Bay Area participants competed in the first Outgames, held in Montreal July 29 - Aug. 5.
The reception also serves as a warm up for the GLBT Historical Society’s 22nd annual gala, “A Home for Our History, Gala 2006,” to be held Sept 28 in San Francisco at Terra, 511 Harrison St. Tennis legend Billie Jean King and former NFL player Esera Tuaolo will be the honored. Food, drink, live entertainment and a silent auction will also be part of this festive fundraiser.
“Sporting Life” will run through December 2006. Regular exhibit hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
