January 21, Nantmawr Quarry, nr Oswestry
Challenging and enjoyable for the riders, exciting and entertaining
for spectators
Lights, camera, action – The start time for The KTM Tough One, the
UK's only extreme, two-hour, sprint hare scramble race that will see
reigning Enduro 3 world champion David Knight take on Britain's best
hare scramble, enduro and cross-country riders at the challenging
Nantmawr Quarry circuit is confirmed as being 4.00pm. Moved back from
the provisional start time of 3.00pm to ensure that the last hour of
the event will take place in the dark, everything is now in place for
a thrilling day's entertainment. As earlier announced the one-hour
qualifying Clubman event will start at Mid Day, finishing at 1.00pm.
With the various man-made sections finished earlier this week race
director Steve Ireland and his team have been adding the finishing
touches to the course, which include the careful positioning of six
motorway style lighting towers that will be used to illuminate the
quarry. To be turned on shortly after the start of the main event, at
around 4.30pm, the lighting towers will light up the key spectator
areas of the course as well as the quarry floor.
With three hours between the end of the Clubman race and the start of
the two-hour The KTM Tough One, Eurosport Commentator Jack Burnicle
will interview the events top riders before introducing all riders
prior to the start of the main event.
The KTM Tough One '06 will certainly be an event worth watching. With
last year's action packed race proving to be highly entertaining,
the '06 running of The KTM Tough One will be every bit as exciting.
Spectator entry fees have been frozen at last year's prices, ensuring
watching Britain's best won't cost the earth. With a parking fee of
just £5.00 per person (based on four in a car, £20.00 per vehicle) or
£5.00 per motorcycle, WOR hope to encourage spectators to `take their
mates' to what promises to be a great day out. Close racing action
and the chance to see Britain's only '05 motorcycling world champion
David Knight in action for the first time in '06 are reason enough to
take a trip to Nantmawr Quarry on January 21.
The venue provides a 100 per cent hard surfaced parking area with the
natural amphitheatre of the Nantmawr Quarry allowing excellent
viewing, even from your vehicle…
The KTM Tough One '06 at Nantmawr Quarry couldn't be simpler to get
to. The venue is signposted from the A483 Welshpool to Oswestry road
at Llynclys. From there it is simply a case of following the brown
Nantmawr Quarry and The KTM Tough One '06 event signs that lead you
straight to the event, just five minutes from the A483. The future of
the event depends on the support of those living locally to the
event - don't park anywhere but inside the quarry. Any vehicles
parked outside the quarry will be clamped and removed…you have been
warned.
Steve Ireland: "Now that the lighting towers are in place I am
confident that The KTM Tough One will be an incredible race. With the
lights on the complete quarry is illuminated, which looks incredible.
The course is 100 per cent finished now and I can't wait to see the
likes of Paul Edmondson, Juan Knight, Daryl Bolter, Wayne Braybrook
and Graham Jarvis take on David Knight. I know it's going to be a
race people will talk about for a long time afterwards."
