Regulations available for Diss MCC EMG Brandon Park Enduro – 26th

Regulations are now available for Diss MCC EMG Brandon Park (former
Breckland) Enduro which forms round one of the 2006 Motul British
Enduro Championship. Whilst the name of the event is new, riders will
recognise the section of forest as this is the area of the
famous `tight on time' Brandon Park check of the former Breckland
Enduro route.
Due to the restricted size of the area, the route is limited to just
under 25 miles, so similar to the Banks Enduro held in November, the
club have restricted the event to just one day with the number of
riding positions also being limited to the first 250 rides.
Work is progressing well in preparing the course with initial plans
for the route to be split into two time controls with the first check
consisting of just over 5 miles which includes a 2.8 mile special
test, followed by the next check which will be a fraction under 20
miles.
With an all new special test and the opportunity to run the second
check tight on time, it looks like good fitness will be the key to
getting a top place in any of the classes. Similar to the Banks in
November, the club may run the test again on the last lap for
Championship riders which again will put a real sting in the tale.
Riders who have ridden events organised in Thetford Forest will know
the going is passable irrespective of the weather conditions and is
suited to riders of all abilities. Entries are open for the following
classes - Championship, Expert and Clubman and it's best to get your
entry in very quick to save disappointment.

One good reason to enter the EMG Brandon Park Enduro – it won't be
held again
One good reason to enter the EMG Brandon Park Enduro is that this
will be the last time any event will be run in this section of
forest. Similar to the old start area and special test area of the
former Breckland, the club have also lost the use of Brandon Park
following the event on 26th February. There are a number of reasons
for this but in a nutshell overuse of the land by all recreational
activities, conservation restrictions and illegal riding by a
minority of thoughtless guys on trail / enduro bikes and have put the
final nail in the coffin.

As regards to the future of events in Thetford Forest, this is not
looking good as the Banks national enduro in November 2006 has been
cancelled and for the foreseeable future it looks like the club will
only run one forest enduro a year within Thetford forest. This event
will be held in the area of the former Banks Enduro and the likely
date will be February 2007. Whether this is a British Championship
event has still to be decided but with the change of date, the club
also considers it is sensible to change the event name. It is a
fitting tribute that six times winner of the event, Paul Eddy who
first won the Banks in 1996 and for record sixth time in November
2005 20 years later, should remain the final name on the trophy.
