With regret Red Bull KTM Off Road Race Team's David Knight announces
that he will not be competing in the '07 Weston Beach Race. As winner
of the event last year, where he beat 10-time World Motocross
Champion Stefan Everts, David was the rider most saw as the clear
favourite to win again in '07. But due to his US GNCC racing
commitments the two-time Enduro 3 World Champion has decided to
withdraw from the event, which takes place just one week ahead of
what is a hugely important final round of the GNCC series for the
Manxman.
Hoping to have wrapped up the '07 US GNCC championship at the start
of October several unexpected yet costly problems have resulted in
David experiencing a roller coaster season. With six overall GNCC
wins to his credit David currently holds a 21-point lead over his
nearest championship rival. A 12th place finish or better at the
final round of the championship, which is held the weekend after
Weston Beach Race, will see David lift the US GNCC crown. Due to the
gruelling and unpredictable nature of Weston Beach Race David has
decided not to compete. However, David is extremely hopeful that he
will return to the event in '08.
David Knight: "I hope everyone can understand my decision. At the
start of the season I set myself one clear goal - to win the '07 US
GNCC series. I am 21 points ahead in the championship and one race
away from reaching my goal, I just can't afford to take any
unnecessary risks. There are a lot of people that have a huge amount
of time, effort and money invested in me this season, with all of us
having the common goal of winning the US GNCC series. I owe it to my
sponsors as much as to myself to look at the bigger picture, which is
why I have decided to withdraw from the Weston Beach Race this year.
Weston is an event that I love. But also an event that you need to be
100 per cent committed to if you are going to win it. I've been
fortunate to win in the past, had many great times at the event, and
am looking forward to competing again."
