Update as at 1730 hrs Tuesday 25 Sep 07.
The Natterjack Enduro is going ahead as planned. The suspected Foot
and Mouth outbreak near Petersfield has been declared a false alarm
by DEFRA and furthermore they have assessed the risk as negligible.
This morning I contacted the ACU to seek their advice on the running
of the event from a political standpoint. They agreed that it was
politically sensitive, but as the land was non agricultural and was
not inside a zone of any kind their position was that the event
should go ahead. The MoD land agent Landmarc is also in agreement
and can see no reason to cancel the event. I should point out that
both organisations have independently contacted DEFRA and received
the same advice – the risk is negligible.
In view of the above Landmarc are reluctant to put any Bio security
measures in place as they feel it is sending a mixed message,
nevertheless I intend to have Bio cleaning on site and any rider is
welcome to have his/her machine and transportation sprayed upon
request.
I should point out that these are turbulent times, and if for
whatever reason the site falls within another protection/surveillance
zone we will need to revisit the situation.
If the situation changes I will post another report. If not, see you
on Friday.
