Hi there,
Just wondering if any one is looking for a female rider for
mountain mayhem,

Planning on a decent length ride on Sunday if anyone is interested. The
route I have in mind is 49km with a decent amount of climbing in the mix, I
did it with Martin and Sandy last summer and I think it will hold up well in
the winter. Moderately technical I’d say and it’s a full day undertaking.
Starting point is Blair Atholl, from whence we head south to Killiecrankie
on a mix of quiet roads and riverside singletrack then east to Glen
Fincastle, climbing (quite sharply in places) onto the high ground between
the Tummel and Garry on tarmac and rough forest road. The descent, from Loch
Bhac over the hill to Bruar, is a cracker, perennially wet to riverish but
with a fairly firm base. From Bruar we head NE to Struan/ Calvine and climb
up into the hills on the start of the Minigaig track and cross the Bruar to
head back to Blair Atholl via Glen Banvie.
Anyone interested – if so let me know. Given the time of year and the fact
the route goes fairly high and is quite committing it will be weather
dependant but there is always stuff to do from Pitlochry/ Blair Atholl area.
Meet point will depend on forecast – if good in Blair Atholl, if not so good
probably Ballinluig motor grill where we can consider the options open to us
over a coffee and bacon roll beans on toast.
Cheers
Stuart

The petrolhead petition against road pricing has attracted well over
one million signatories and counting, so it's time for the cyclists
of Britain to get behind an E-Petition of their own. It is already
up and running, and has more than 2,400 signatures already. The
argument put forward by the petition's author, Gary Rowing-Parker,
sum up the position, and a very noble one it is too.
'For reasons of health and in order to reduce carbon emissions from
transport, the Government should take a bold and tangible step to
support the view that cycling is good for those who do it and good
for everyone else as well. Cyclists should be rewarded for their
contribution to reducing carbon emissions by not having to pay VAT
for their bicycles, tricycles and human powered vehicles, nor for
the spares and parts required to keep them running.'
To sign up, just click on the link below and fill in the appropriate
fields. Closing date is 8 August 2007.

Is there? Anyone got any plans they are willing to share?

Life's pretty hectic at the moment, and as a result I've not done as
much research/planning as I wanted to. So unfortunately I'm going to
have to postpone this trip :-(
I'll check the mtb diary & see what an alternative date could be - it
will happen this year though!
Apologies if you had kept this weekend free.

Top weekend down to Dumfriesshire. 7 of us on Friday night and Saturday,
some scoops in the Anchor Inn in Kippford then out to Kirroughtree for some
riding on Saturday morning. Yet more singletrack been added since last time
I was there, must be >80% singletrack now. All enjoyed it though lack of
riding showed on some – I’m sure Dougie was more concerned than is right by
the buzzards circling overhead at the end of the ride! Loz, Dougie and Jason
headed home and Martin, Fi, Fi and I went back to Kippford. Ali and Paul
joined us on Saturday night for some Isotonic Sports Rioja, then we rode
Mabie on Sunday. Minor issue with my back brake ejaculating it’s fluid over
the rotor which put paid to a second lap, ho hum!
Thanks to Martin for doing the organising – should be some pics on Flickr
sooner or later:

Hi
Great show at the Pentlands today, there was me, myself and I. still we
or I had a good loop round and found some nice never ridden before by
me single track. Weather was great and odd bit of mud made for a great
spin round the local hills.
Hope you all had sore heads and hangover that lasted all day ; )

Just to let you all know how things are going.
Only 3 weeks to go, car just about ready, nearly finished a full service, just a
clutch master and slave cylinder to change.
We're about 100 quid short of the 6 grand mark at the minute. :-)
Sold nearly half of the buffs so there's still 100 left
www.macmillan4x4.co.uk/buff.html
Still a few items that have been donated to sell and we're still getting stuff
donated.
Tents, sleeping bags, fleeces, T-shirts, mountain bike and white water rafting
trips, golfing discount vouchers and a few other 4x4 bits.
www.macmillan4x4.co.uk/forsale.html
To everyone who has helped so far, thanks your help will help Macmillan support
those living with cancer.
If anyone can help by donating money, buying items, donating goods, advertising
us and the items for sale to friends and colleagues then get in touch.
Cheers
Graeme and Chris

Good call that, Paul. That ride was great fun, just the sort of road
riding I like, so thanks for suggesting it. You are obviously in
favour with the weather gods too, we couldn't have asked for a better
day for it.

Wed – put some Valentines Love into the trails on a romantic moonlit
Pentlands ride with the love of your life. Caress the pedals and pull all
the right levers so you can ride round the hills until his/her wheels fall
off….errr best stop there, what?
Anyone willing to sort this out? Name a meeting point and time, come up with
a vague route and you’re away.
Sat – Pentlands ride. 10am at Colinton Road Westgarth Avenue for 2-3 hours
round the local trails. Weather dependant so give your main man Chris a bell
if it’s looking inclement. 07974 957055
Sun – no plans in diary, a lot of regulars are doing the Tour of East
Lothian (whisper it) Audax. Ae was in the diary but loads of felling so no
point really.
Also DH racing at Innerleithen – sounds ace! HYPERLINK

The Hub have changed the date of their Valentines Day special to 21st
Feb (see http://www.thehubintheforest.co.uk/HUB_NEWS/Love.html). I've
checked with Emma, and food at the cafe will be on a first come basis,
there is no need to book.
I've updated the ERC diary with the revised date.

A quick reminder of tomorrow's Pentlands ride. Sadly yesterday's snow
looks like it has all melted, but the forecast is for a further light
dusting overnight, so don't take those spiked tyres off just yet. :-)
As ever, call me in the morning before setting out if it's looking trashy.
Sunday's ride is still waiting for someone to step forward and
organise something.
