I know that this is very short notice, but I have tomorrow off work and thought
I'd go for a ride the Pentlands. If anyone wants to join me, phone me on 0131
620 4364.
Will probably be leaving Colinton area around the back of ten - will arrange to
meet anyone who wants to join me.
Colin.
Unfortunately I cannot join Colin's Lammer's ride on Sunday due to packing
commitments but will be able to squeeze in an early ride to suss out a new
evening route taking in the best bits of the Peebles ridge ride.
I have a defined route for the middle and end of the ride but need some
exploration to ensure some interest on the first 40 minutes.
If anyone fancies a 2 hour ride (or more if we get lost) starting before
9am text me on 07767 380900.
The plan is to start and finish in the Cardrona FC car park
Lozza
PS I assume Colin's ride is still on

Are any ERC Bike Works riders planning on racing at Builth on 14th May ??
I am taking the van down so can take another, share fuel costs, leave early
friday morning. Can come back late on the sunday if anybody wants to stay for
the 2-4-6 Enduro.
Will prolly camp at the venue unless the weather forecast is bad in which case B
& B.
Email me at helenmfindlay@....
Have attached a description of the course below, in case anybody is wavering.
It sounds superb !!
Helen
"Dear Rider
Just to give you an update on premier Series Round 2 at Builth Wells.
Having done a course inspection yesterday I can asssure you this one is a
cracker, tough but really good. John Lloyd has put together what he considers to
be the toughest course of the series but there is plenty of payback for the two
large climbs on open solid track, coupled with miles of tight singletrack,
spectacular views, two vistis to the main arena per lap and a final descent down
the complete 2000 Downhill National Course. However we have decided not to use
the legendary Skull Valley this time as the course does not need it and overall
is better without it.
The venue has excellent camping facilities with a permanent
shower/toilet/laundry block, electric hook ups and hard standing for larger
campers/vans etc. The campsite is only 1 minute walk from the Start/Finish area.
If you need a hard standing for a large unit please get in touch as they are
limited. Camping is £5 per pitch for the weekend (Fri/Sat night) if you plan to
stay outside these times you will need to pay the campsite owners at the normal
rate. For more info about the venue please visit their website
http://www.fforestfields.co.uk/
Online entry is now available at http://www.xcracer.com and we will be taking
online and postal pre entries up until the Wednesday morning. The site also has
race reports and links to over 1000 quality photos from Round 1.
Other news is to encourage participation we will be making Short Track entry
free at this round and with the support of What Mountain Bike and Bontrager
there will be a £250 prize pot to be shared between the open and elite
categories."

Since the weather has got a bit nicer im thinking about heading down for
a quick spin, however I finish work at 6pm (home roughly 7pm, GT by
roughly 7:30pm) so will probably miss you all.
I went down on Sunday at 7pm and had enough time to go around the red
before it got dark. Im not bringing lights anyway (if I go).
Might see you there!
Sandy.
I'm going to GT too, but only for an easy run: either the blue, or up
the red down the blue, depending on how I feel. I've no lights at all
(switch is bust), so definitely need to be off the hill by -- what

Probably see the rest of you in the Hub at the end.
-Les.
I think Stu and I are going to GT to do Deliverance and Redemption at a
relatively easy pace. He's in Glasgow all week and we would struggle to get
to Inners in time. I have also forgotten to charge my lights so if the large
bag of carrots I ate at lunchtime don't work, I could be in trouble!

Just got a note from Pete Laing. He has had to cancel the
trailbuilding session that was planned for this Saturday, so the next
session will be 14th May.
He's also considering holding a few evening sessions over the summer

Thanks,

Dougie,

It would be good to book a large section of the first field ie on the right

Remember leaving promptly at 1800h from the front of Edinburgh Bicycle

What with the rain, we'll stick to the drier trails and spin some

According to the very "helpful" farmers that we met at Cloish, lambing is
beginning of April to end of May. I suppose it depends on where you are but

Isn't lambing time in April?
In a couple of weeks I am due to lead a Lammermuirs ride. However,
given the argument regarding lambing on the Cloish ride the other
week, and the fact that the Lammermuirs are prime sheep territory, I
was wondering whether it might be a bad time to run this ride....

Anyone considering Option A should bear in mind it's a 2 1/2 hour drive
from Edinburgh to Kirroughtree. Not that those of us camping at
Sandyhills are likely to get there particularly early. Not if last year
is anything to go by...
Anyway, put me down for Option B with no extras, please, Dougie. I'm
happy to share my tent if anyone's either tentless or skint.

Trails forecast:
General Synopsis - Dust-tastic trails and bright sunshine have brought out
loads of bikers this week. Pentlands are "in condition" with most tracks
drying nicely. Get it while you can. Bit of beer on Tuesday, Innerleithen
creeping in on Wednesday then some XC action at Fort William in the
weekend - if the rain don't get you the midges might.
Detailed forecast:
Tuesday: Might as well have a pub night cos we did Cloish ride last Tuesday,
eh? Sort of fortnightlyish pub night, 1930 at The Cambridge for food and
beers thereafter. Let me know if you're up for it, mail or phone.
Tuesday take 2: MTB Training Ride (Kieren) Meet outside Edinburgh Bicycle
Co-operative at 6pm for a 2-3 hour ride up into the Pentlands. The pace is
intended to be fast with no stopping. Full details at
http://tinyurl.com/8xf54
Wednesday: Innerleithen Our end-of-the-month alternative to Glentress.
Meet in the DH carpark from 6.45 for a 7pm. kick-off. Les put in the
calendar "lights probably needed after 9.30pm" but if it's overcast it's
going to be pretty dingy in them trees.
Sat: Off Road - Pentlands Leisure Ride. Meet at Colinton Road / Westgarth
Ave junction. I am meant to be leading this, however I'll be heading up to
Fort William for the SXC race so will try to sort an alternative leader.
Also: GT Trailbuilding, more details later in the week.
Sun: Scottish XC Series round 2 at Fort William. Helen, Fi D, Fi R, Martin,
Alistair Lees, Kieren, Fraser, Alistair and I are heading up for this, might
be a few more too, never know. Pre-enter to save a fiver - more at
www.sxc.org.uk
Looking ahead:
7 May is the Glentress Trailquest - see:
http://www.edinburghrc.co.uk/erc/jsp/club_promotions.jsp#trailquest
for details.

Yep, Fraser, that's right. I believe the plan was to camp at Sandy Hills (as
this is the most favourable place) for either both Fri (27th May) & Sat
(28th May) night, or just Sat night.
Then ride at Kirroughtree on the Saturday, and either Dalbeattie or Mabie
depending on if you are racing or not.
The campsite website info is here...
http://www.gillespie-leisure.co.uk/sandyhills/index.htm
Tent pitch information here...
http://www.gillespie-leisure.co.uk/sandyhills/touringAndTents/touringAndTentsInt\
ro.htm
Looking like £13 per pitch per night.
So lets get this going. Firstly we need number and your preference of which
option...
Option A: Arrive at Kirroughtree on Saturday 28th morning, ride, camp at
Sandyhills Sat night, Dalbeattie Race or Mabie on Sunday 29th.
Option B: Arrive at Sandyhills on Friday 27th night, drive to Kirroughtree
on Sat 28th & ride, return to Sandyhills Sat night, Dalbeattie Race or Mabie
on Sunday 29th.
Optional extra: Camp Sunday night, return Monday 30th.
Can everyone who is keen on this weekender, let me know as soon as and which
option you prefer (plus the optional extra). Can you also state if you will
be sharing tents to reduce cost.
Cheers me dears

If I remember correctly we agreed that a camping weekend was scheduled
for the SXC round at Dalbeattie (29/5/05). Is that still on & if so as
it clashes with the SXC and Sandyhills Bay is not the biggest of camp
sites is it worth booking in advance i.e. around now?
If so is it a group booking or several individuals?
Suggestions from those who were there last year please.
