Sat - Feb 4 - 9:30AM Merrit Island/Cocoa Beach - Intracoastal -Setting
up at Kelly Park. (528 and Merrit Island)

I've driven over the bridge many times and I'm looking forward to
playing in all that water. There should be plenty of wind in the
morning for a sail but I'm bringing a paddle just in case. 6' swell
in the ocean. I'll have to check that out in the afternoon. Call if
you don't see me and want to meet up 561-351-1376

did an early session with Steve on jupiter beach south of the club and north of
the kiters. 5.4core and angulo82 worked, it was borderline light when i first
went out but quickly filled in to powered and over. head high onshore with
slight wind tilt to the south, nice blue water color made the waves very
inviting.. if one could get past the shorebreak, we did, but it kept me from
coming back in to tweak for the stronger winds that filled in. a break sits
offshore with variations and an inside no break zone for easy transitions and
close high speed passes by the spectators on the beach. checked out the
stuart bathtub beach cam, that is an interesting place to sail abnormally flat
water with open ocean exposure, obstacles need to be respected but sure looks
like a unique spot for a session. Best wishes, john in jupiter

Mentioned he goes to that's spot and sails between the beach and the
reef line. I want to try that also. They are having a BBQ/picnic on
Saturday afternoon. That's when I plan on checking it out.

Hi All

Sorry for the intrusion but just in case anyone is interested I am selling my 2002 Mercedes Sprinter Van which I custom outfitted for windsurfing – only has 26,000 miles, is in excellent condition. This is possibly the prettiest and nicest windsurfing van around and definitely the lowest mileage 2002 Sprinter van in the world!!!! Would love this to go to a windsurfer/kitesurfer/sailor like my previous van so wanted to offer it here before going on eBay.

Full description and photos here at http://www.steynfamily.com/mercedes-sprinter-ultimate-windsurfing-van-for-sale.htm

PS:- including all my windsurfing gear (some RS-5 race sails have never been used but they are outdated)

Please feel free to forward this to anyone who might be interested

Contact me on this emaildsteyn@... or at the cell number below. I do travel a lot internationally so I might not be able to respond immediately but generally within 24 hours for sure

Many thanks

Regards,

lost the long post(bird walked across the keyboard), shorter version is hobe
sound public was a sweet babypool of ne swell and light se winds. Rob showed up
and was the babypool master, had a nice first wave right behind me and then rode
them for hours, he finished on the north side of the public where he found
smooth clean waves setting up and working well. i was on the upwind south side
of the lifeguard protected area, and had it connecting outside to inside down
the line, had to wait for the right sets and waves but some nice ones came
through and plenty of other outside to inside waves too. it was nice Rob showed
up, it kept me out a lot longer than i would have alone. it was warm, sunnyish,
a really nice day.. Best wishes, john in jupiter

I made it up to Merrit Island/Cocoa over the weekend and picked up a
2003 Exocet Compact Move - 260cmx69cm (8'6"x 27") - 115L

It was nice to sail this in flat water with a 5.3 sail. Easy to Gybe
and I was able to get a couple of tacks, too. I then set it up with a
7.8 Sail the board held the weight of the sail nicely but not enough
wind to get back into the foot straps. It was barely planing. This
morning I took it out in the ocean with the 5.3 sail and made it out
past the break at Jupiter Inlet. My goal was just to stay up wind and
avoid the rocks. It actually worked out pretty nice. I even caught 2
little waves coming in.

Some pics from this morning.

This board should work out nicely to continue my transition to smaller
wave boards. I can also SUP it which is very nice for non windy
days.

Bring on the wind! I gotta get out there and practice!

Subject: the wx guessers and some sensor arrays are misleading
johni952004

cell phone coverage does not help sometimes either. i tried to talk with
someone yesterday. had 2 live reports to share. neither was i able to pass
along since cell coverage was spotty.

meanwhile, the iwindy sensor array showed lousy numbers, yet the mesonet showed
sexy ones. also, the day of phenom is dampening enthusiasm from them. every
day, the day of forecast goes to crap. dunno why it just has. i still use
iwindy for NE FL to see the bouys. then mesonet, then cape canaveral area.

also, if one just looks at an array of sensors without looking at specific ones
for wind range data, then the enthusiasm may suffer still more. gusts may help
keep the interest alive.

specifically, yesterday's wind was bizarre. NE to NNE wind inland, NNW wind
along the coast and the banana river. i was on a 5.8 sail and 105 liter wave
board at playalinda. wind was cross onshore and pretty puffy. titusville cswy
was NNE to NE and far steadier in the mid afternoon. i sailed 2 sessions after
work. playalinda then titus.

the forecasts should be blended and one should determine which of any will apply
for the day. lots have not been good, lately.

side off 30 degrees or so. 5.8 sail 105 liter wave board. should not have left
my long board home, again.

at times it was superb. waves kept lining up, and the rides were forever long.
other times the wind just shut down. the rides made up for the flailing thru
the impact zone.

long board would have made it way easier.

credit to rutgers university and noaa for bring us great water temp products.   there has been such consistent cloud cover for several days that there was no satellite water temps, till now.. not typical winter temps either, it has been  so warm so long that typically too cold water temps are warm, often jupiter and points just south are the only warm water with the gulf stream supplying the heat, but now we are just a bit warmer mid 70's.   Best wishes, john in jupiter

sailed till arms and legs cramped up same time while taking a final wave outside
to inside and way down the line to corners and landing on the sand... waves all
day with occasional large sets coming thru and the rest fun size. so many down
the line moments, waves weren't forever long but good and long enough. alot of
sealife on the outside, big jacks and larger somethings. Steve was first out on
5.5ezzy, i sailed 4.7zone and was only one using gloves and hood. Dan on

Hi,

Nice winds in Jax before the temps went really low.
Tom and I had a really good sesh on the river. Winds were nice and
consistent up to the 30s.
There is something to be said about sailing in the top range of a multicam
sail and good board/fin.
it is that perfect blend of brutal exertion and symphonic finesse. I like
that!!
Used 6.5 and 64cm board, and definitely the slowest link in that kit...

Vincent.

Got on Saturday on the IRL south of the 192 CSWY in Melbourne.
7.0 was fully lit, but the cams helped. 10-25 knots !!
Good day!

I've been looking at many all around type SUP boards and a couple that
have centerboards/footstraps, too. Ideally to have it for light wind
sailing and SUP surfing. I'm pretty happy about the one I picked up
yesterday that works pretty good.

2010- Naish Glide AST 12'x29.75" - 218L It's designed to be a
downwind SUP racer. They added a windsurf base.

No wind this morning and all my buddies were out SUP surfing. I was
planning on getting some flatwater time but went out there in the head
high waves to play. Getting out was easy with such a fast board. I
started catching little swells and then the bigger ones. A pretty
fast board got me off the shoulder to avoid the close outs.

This afternoon, I rigged it with a 6.8 Sail in the Intracoastal and
had a nice time in the light 10-12knt winds. It goes up wind nicely
even with the surf fin. Very easy to Tack but I gotta get the Gybe to
work faster to get me around. I'm losing too much ground. I think I
need to step further back.

I'll be out all week to dial it in and get some ocean sessions, too.

My buddy has the 14' version. It's much narrower but it sails very
quick upwind.

Toys, Toys, Toys!

Thanks for posting.  I like seeing these POV on our local areas.  That's how I've been learning.

I can't believe you can paddle out a board this size in big surf. What am I missing?

Here are some pics from a small day on a 14' Fanatic Fly Race SUP.
https://picasaweb.google.com/103366333611143904287/JupiterBeachSUPSurfJuly18

Once past the shore pound that these longer SUP boards are like rockets.  I also use a short paddle for a quicker pace.  The hardest part is slowing down as the wave peaks so that I don't fly off.

Trying to get out with a 8'10" Surf SUP is tougher.   I switch to bigger boards and zip right by my buddies.  Speed is nice!

I'll have to get some pics of the new board in the surf to share.

Sharing some pics from today. A little SUP, windSUPsurf and then a
Lake session to practice.
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150800098537538.510949.644662537&type\

After a flat water sessions with the Naish 12' Glide and 6.8 Mauisails
Global, it was time to try it in the waves. My goal was to get from
the Jupiter inlet to the pier which meant 100% upwind sailing between
the outside monster sets and the inside smaller waves. Outside waves
looked just overhead high, 3 sufers were out there being chased around
by their buddy on boat. Inside waves were about shoulder high and I
had plenty of fast rides on the swells in between.

I did learn pretty quickly that I had the tides mixed up. Since I had
just SUPed from the intracoastal to the inlet and then windsurfed from
the other side, It took me two or three tacks to figure out why I
wasn't going up wind. The rising tide from the inlet was taking all
my speed. So I came closer to the beach and with a couple of shorter
tacks, I was able to break free and start to head down the beach.

At 1.5 hours, I had already traveled 7 miles and just made it past the
section with the big outside sets that John, Steve and the other
locals like to ride. I took a break, had a snack, some yoga
stretches and finished my water. I didn't want to go any further. It
only took me 15 mins to get back, cruising really fast practicing
gybes as I went. Stepping really far back made a big difference on
how quick the big board turns.

A big thanks to John and Sam for the phone coaching and answering all
sorts of silly questions that I had(and will continue to have).
