Cocoa's Nancy Rios scores 6 bullets and one second in the just
completed Olympic Pre-Trials and Pan Am Games qualifier. This regatta
is the first of three events that will determine the top contenders
who qualify for campaign funding from the Olympic Sailing Committee.
In second place, sometime local visitor, Farrah Hall of Annapolis,
Md. finished 4 points behind Nancy.
Tampa's Ben Barger was flawless, coming in first in all of his scored
races.
This past week we had a strong then not-so then strong SE then S wind
on Friday. The current at PAFB was strong, and the waves were at
close intervals. Some folks went for a ride in the sideshore current
when they fell in the middle break zone.
Cure for this dilema: when you fall in, go back to shallower water
walk back upwind, and try again. Momentum is the key to getting thru
the worst part of the current. Once down in the fastest part of it,
the current makes your apparent wind weakest for water starts. Thus
the flush down current and frustrations...
To sum up. When sailing in strong rips, sail to the edge of the water
on each run. If you fall midway come on back in for another try.
Also, avoid stalling jumps in the middle break by running away from
ramps finding the "seams" between breakers.
The Grinch stole the forecast. The FWC has been postponed. Check the
FWC website for rescheduling

Looks like everyone is headed to PAB including John I. With the south
component in the evening forecast, the money bet is PAB.

Since Clyde and I may be too busy during our next cold front (Florida Wave Challenge), I was glad we were able to get in some ocean sailing. There were some excellent wave riding opportunities. When the breaks lined up, you could go down the line for more than 100 yards. The season has begun.
The equipment carnage included Bruce Racicot's boom. One side broke while he was sailing well offshore. He was able to disconnect the boom, move it to the other side of the sail and re-secure it so that the good side would get him back to shore: it worked!
I should also note that he saw what he said was the biggest shark he had ever seen.

Monday and Tuesday brought a nice gathering to PAB. Didn't get there on Tuesday until the day had warmed up, so I missed the windier section of the day. Must have been good as the beach chatter was abuzz with tales of gear carnage. The left over wind was plenty good enough for me and it was great to see so many of the usual suspects.
I sailed Sebastian Inlet in the river, Mon and Tues. Monday was a little disappointing, I was underpowered and the wind dropped off in late afternoon. Tuesday was great, steady NNE 18-20.
Hello everyone, I sailed jupiter inlet monday and tuesday, both days
were windy with 4.7 very powered. Monday was pretty flat with smooth
rollers helped by low tide, tuesday had a bit of a wave but it never
got big enough to be all about the waves, i started early with 5.4 and
had it more sideoff and got a few zips down the small line but was
soon overpowered and just trying to survive(and waves didn't really
build too much but tide dropped and made more whitewater). Sailed a
previous saturday(sunday?) with sideshore north, also on 4.7 but no
waves worth speaking about. Enjoy the reports now that i know about
this site, best wishes, john in jupiter.
still trying to figure out how to post so if this ends up as a private
email instead of group posting, sorry, i'll keep working on it. i
posted last windy day but it never showed up...

A new webcam sponsored by the surfing website 2nd Light will help us
see what the conditions at PAB will most likely be, even though the
camera is a few miles south in Satellite Beach. It gives a great view!

First and Second Place was a mere 0.13 knots (0.19mph)!
We had a great turnout with 42 Windsurfers participating.
Of these 42 racers, 9 were first time sailors. Some of our more
senior sailors have windsurfed for over 25 years.
Our youngest sailor was first time sailor Rebecca Christenson age 10.
Over 73 separate Speed Sailing Sessions and more than 1425 Miles of
Speed Sailing were officially recorded on Lake Okabena during this
event.
The 2006 High Mileage Award goes to Chris Lock with a total of 267
miles total for all recorded sessions, and to Jay Corbett with 188
miles.
On October 6 and 7, Chris sailed 138 miles and Jay sailed 101 miles.
These were brutal sailing conditions with winds ranging between 25-40
mph on both days. The competition was intense. These guys have a
story
to tell here.
The most sessions were recorded by Jason Swanson (8), followed by
Chris
Lock (7), Jeff Hegwer (7), and Arnie Cleveland (6).
Formula Sessions were turned in by Ulf Jentler, Jeff Adamski, and
Lisa Kremer.
Arnie Cleveland and Jack Wiley represented Long Board Division.
I would like to thank Jeff Hegwer and Jason Swanson for all their
assistance during the 2006 season. I would also like to thank Arnie
Cleveland for his assistance, and high level of enthusiasm for Speed

sailors of all skill levels could participate in a Speed Sailing
Competition. The schedule was open 7 days a week for a 6 month
period. Any visiting sailor was assured of the chance to participate
anytime he/she was in the area.
All the work associated with this event was was done on a volunteer
basis. Meals and refreshments were served beach side all season long
without charge. A special thanks to my wife Pamela Bergh for the many
fine meals cooked and served over the last 6 months to the visiting
Sailors.

It appears that the wind this weekend will not meet our minimum for the Florida Wave Challenge. A front is expected to stall over the area producing light and variable winds. The marine forecast is for only 5 to 10 knots on Saturday and even less on Sunday. Therefore, the contest will not occur this weekend and is now limited to either Oct. 28th or 29th.
Check your gear and complete any home projects (or other obligations) this weekend so that everyone is ready for next weekend!

Darn Spammers.....
I rather enjoyed the Asian Porn Site though.
Those kind of posts, kind of keep things going during the wind lulls.
Although the wifey may become suspicous that it's not really a
windsport forum.
ST
Sean you are right, the barbarians do get thru the gate. I try to deal
with them asap but they do get that first salvo and emails are sent to
the group. Immediately their email is removed from the archive and then
the author is banned from the group.
We could require membership screening before new applicants are
approved. The spammers get on the group by becoming members first and
then sending their emails. I have resisted the membership screening
because i did not want to put up another obstacle for real people.
Out of almost 2000 posts we have had only a handful of this type of
posting. This is a daily occurence on the Aerotech Forum.
I think our group has been hacked....there was a sex post made not too
long ago, anyone know what we can do to prevent this? Are new people
automatically made members or does the moderator have to approve them?

Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have
spent the last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the
UNHCR in Beirut. The last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for
peace and human rights (especially refugees and asylum seekers) on the
Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks publisher. I have launched
many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees in Lebanon and
hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I helped
make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I
used the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more
about that in my free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and
could be download from my sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating
actions of the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and
human-buttons to collect money. This is an abuse of the dignity and
humanity of the refugees and must stop immediately and a clear public
apology present by The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can see here: http://www.freewebs.com/unhcr/human-buttons.htm
Where you can read the rest of this message as web page.
For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free
ebooks. I invite you as fellow humans and members of the world
community to support my campaign by reading my article on my site and
see the human-buttons. The campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR

after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:

Yes Saturday was much ocean joy after a long dry summer. Clyde earned
his "Always Prepared" merit badge by having a spare harness line on
hand after mine broke in my first few minutes out at Playlinda. My
sailing day was saved so many thanks. Looking forward to a good season.

This from NW Windsurfing:
Next Friday 10-20-06 at 10:00pm (and again at 1:00am following), on the
Fine Living Network, channel 204 (Comcast in Seattle anyway), the
program "Me vs Me" will be about windsurfing.
Here is a link that describes it:
http://www.finelivi ng.com/fine/ me_vs_me/ episode/0, 2760,FINE_
27977_46878, 00.html
Ya gotta have digital cable to get this. I have only regular cheapie
cable, so I'm hoping somebody on these lists can record it.
Our own Boeing Windsurfing Club president, Leslie Nixon, is the star of
the show. A few others of us have bit parts. Footage was filmed at Des
Moines, Aruba, and the Gorge. Sailworks sails will figure prominently
in the Northwest footage.
I don't have digital cable either, hope someone here records it.
Saturday was a tour day force in ocean sailing options starting with Playalinda. I sailed some at Playa with John I., John T. and newly christened wave wannabe Mark(Hello Paola!). Time and tide wait for no man, and we headed south after Playa became a litle too onshore and ugly.
First stop, Jetty and it was too wind shadowed for any sailing on the inside. However, Ken was out and making the most of it on long runs out to the wind line.
Second stop, Cherie but the wind was still kind of light and our greeting party, Doug and Flint met us on the walkover. Not a good sign.
Third stop was PAB and the wind was better but still somewhat light. Talked to Jaque and Chuck whose 5.5's were keeping them on the beach in that all too familiar pose. Since this was the third time charm paradigm, we had to rig and give it a go. We all sailed until our batteries were officially drained and called it a day. Looked like there were quite a few sails launching from B&G's backyard. Sure enough that was Mike R. who passed us at Patrick, grinding upwind on his Formula kit.
Half a dozen sailors were going at it on the Titusville Causeway and I heard there was a large crowd at Kelly. Wind on Saturday usually makes for good crowds. Howd' ya'll make out?
