Sharon's Ride Specifics (Flyer will go out next week and also on Active.com):
All events held on October 27, 2007, in downtown Mobile, Alabama, starting at Bienville Square. All proceeds go to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of South Alabama.
Non-competitive "under -over" fun ride hosted by MBBC that starts at 8am SHARP! Will have a mandatory rider's meeting at 7:55am for instructions. Will divide into 2 groups: A group will do the 25 mile ride, B group will do the 12 mile ride.
Routes are as follows:
A group will head out to Government Street then proceed through the Bankhead Tunnel to the causeway to Spanish Fort. Head up the hill then loop back down and return on the causeway to Cochran Bridge Road and head over Cochran Bridge, then back down Telegraph and Water Street to Bienville Square.
B Group will leave AFTER the A group and proceed through the tunnel but then head north on Cochran Bridge Road instead of crossing the bay on the causeway.
There will be escorts and signage on the routes. Remember this is not a race. One day license is included in the cost of the ride (see below). Although the tunnel will be closed, only one way bicycle traffic will be permitted, so once through must proceed on A or B route or have alternate plans to get back to Mobile. Contact David Speed for more detailed information or if you wish to volunteer to help (dspeed@...)
If you want to race,..... then the criterium races are tentatively scheduled to start at 10:45am and proceed to 6:00pm. Criterium hosted by Bay City Breakers & Jeep/SEMC of Pensacola. Exact times, distances & payouts will be released shortly, but categories are Juniors, Women, Masters, Grandmasters, Cat 5, Cat 4 & Cat 1-3. Purse is approximately $3,000, with prizes to the Cat 5 racers. If we have the demand and the time permits, we will try and do a A and B division of Cat 5 riders to allow those who have never raced or have very little experience to race separate from the more experienced Cat 5 riders. Must have USCF license or purchase one day license.
Will have race primes.
The course is tentatively set for downtown Mobile and we will release that shortly and is always subject to change! Expect an approximately 1 mile course with 4 to 6 right hand turns.
Fees are same as last year: Ride $20 (day of $25); Crit $30 (day of $35) and additional crits $10: If fun ride and race (highly encouraged) $40. Kids races are $10. You can register day of, up to 30 minutes before the event. Food & Drinks provided. Since the central location will be in Bienville Square, bring the family & whatever else you want/need.
