Subject: Chattanooga Bicycle Club Events
The Chattanooga Bicycle Club is announcing their events for spring of 2003: the 3-State 3-Mountain Challenge and the Tanasi Mountain Bike Festival and Bike Swap Meet. We would really appreciate your sharing the following information with your friends and fellow cyclists. More detail is on our web site - www.chattbike.com.
The 3-State 3-Mountain Challenge will be held on May 3, 2003. Come experience one of the southeast's most scenic and challenging centuries. The rigorous 100-mile option will take you through 3 states (Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia) and over 3 mountains (Suck Creek, Sand and Lookout). The moderate 62-mile option remains in 1 state and crosses 1 mountain. The 25-mile option takes riders across the hilly terrain of 1 state.
Hailed by cyclists as the most unique century they've ever ridden, this year's Challenge promises to be the best ever! Again we will be starting and finishing at the Cricket Pavilion in downtown Chattanooga with a pizza party waiting at the end. The Chattanooga Marriott will be hosting the Pasta Feast and packet pickup on Friday night, May 2. A Litespeed titanium bicycle frame will be given away. Chances will be included with a Pasta Feast ticket and with the 3-State registration. Additional chances will be available at the event. Sunday, the second annual Undercover Chattanooga Bicycle and Skate Scavenger Hunt will be held featuring Chattanooga’s little known treasures. So bring the family and stay the weekend. The Chattanooga Marriott is offering a special discount rate for the event. The cut off date for this offer is April 11 so make your reservations early. The rooms are going fast.
Also we will have an all new event jersey this year for $45 if ordered before April 23, $55 thereafter. However to be assured of the correct size at the time of the event, jersey orders should be in by March 15. For those near Chattanooga, we will have some sample sizes to try on available at Suck Creek Cycle from Mar 1 - 12. The jerseys will be made by Verge Sport this year instead of Louis Garneau. It should be the same fine quality. I’m just not sure how the sizing will be until we get the samples. For those of you who are already registered and have some question about the size, you might want to check this out.
The Tanasi Mountain Bike Festival and Bike Swap Meet will be held on April 19, 2003, at the Ocoee Whitewater Center in the Cherokee National Forest. The Tanasi trail system has some of the best singletrack mountain biking in Tennessee and is still growing. Some new trail has been added to both the Chilhowee and the Tanasi trail systems to provide even more variety and challenge. This year’s festival promises to be the same fun filled day as in the past. The competition for the Bolder Hop and the Log Pull gets tougher each year. A continental breakfast and lunch are part of the festival offerings. Of course, guided rides will be scheduled all through the day. There is plenty of fun for all skill levels. This year we are adding a bicycle swap meet so bring your spare bicycles, parts, and accessories and browse, sell or trade. Proceeds from the festival go to the Tanasi trail fund.
More detailed information and applications are available for both events on our website -- www.chattbike.com and online registration is available from our web site or from www.active.com. Contact for the events is Daisy Blanton, 706/820-1157 or
