Re: Training Talk : Functional Strength

From my experience, I like to cycle my weight
training and my calisthenics. But in all honesty, I don't
like lifting that much, as it has led to stiffness,
time and time again. Calisthenics really do great
things.

Now, I'm not talking about your old high school P.E.
routine calisthenics, where you do 20 pushups, 5 chins,
and 50 squats.

I know a wrestler who follows
an interesting calisthenics program. He does cardio
everyday, sprinting every other day. He mixes his training
with the following training program:

100 dips:
20 reps for 5 sets, 1 min rest
50 chins: 10 reps
for 5 sets, 2 min rest
100 plies: 1 set
100
pushups: 1 set

I personally advocate an intense,
high-rep, fast-tempo, little rest calisthenics program. Try
it, and see how it works for you.
