What kind of strength does a fighter need?<br> Is
it necessary for him to be able to bench press
300lbs? No. There is nothing wrong at all<br>with weight
training as it builds a solid foundation for your body to
be able to meet the demands of ballistic activities.
In a fight you are constantly in motion with a live
opponent, not a weight bench. The strength of, let's say, a
gymnast, is different from a weight lifter's strength. The
gymnast has, what Vunak calls, tendon strength which is
functional for a fight.<br> Tendon strength is developed by
doing calisthenics with body weight as resistance such
as squats, push ups, dips, stomach crunches, and
sprinting. Besides in a fight there is some explosiveness
and resistance i.e. Rapid Assault Tactics ( straight
blast, HKE ), which requies tendon or functional
strength. Continue the weight training which is really
beneficial, but incorporate calisthenics such as those
mentioned above and you'll be great.<br> Take Care and God
