Hey everybody!
We had our first East Bay Fencers Gym Youth Tournament yesterday
(Saturday)!
All fencers from our youth program were eligible and we had a great
turnout. We began with a quick run-down of "tournament protocol"
(what do you do when the director calls your name; who do you have to
salute before, during, and after the bout; all that good stuff.) and
then we went right into pools. Of course, one of the things they
learned about tournaments is exactly how much time you spend standing
around . . . waiting for your name to be called . . . so you can
fence. I think it's like jet fighter pilots say - long periods of
boredom interspersed with brief moments of terror. Or stress, maybe,
in our case. :) :)
Anyway, a good time seemed to be had by all, and everybody got
something. My kind of tournament.
Here were our fabulous fencers:
Mathias Arizmendi
Joshua Clemens
Max Cramer
Catherine Gougeon
Nico Hall
Zaid Johnson
Tiernan O'Neill
Willow Parks
Darius Roffe
Julien Satt-Volhardt
Auriane Vacher
For the record, Julien came in first, Darius second, and Tiernan
third.
Congratulations to all our Youth Fencers for a great tournament!
