Hello all -
I was talking with Elizabeth, one of our epee fencers, about the
video Jonathan sent out, and she said there was footage of Heidemann
in actual bouts. Which thrilled me to no end. So I wanted to share
her research with you all also. There is also some good foil bouting
for us foilists! Happy fencing viewing . . .
Here's how to find it:
For additional footage of women's épée events, WCSN.com has good
coverage for a reasonable price ($4.95 per month).
The 2007 World Championships offers a better opportunity to see
Heidemann:
Heidemann (GER) v. Embrich (EST)
---> Heidemann (GER) v. Li Na (CHN)
Li Na (CHN) v. Nisima (FRA)
In the 2006 World Championships, more of the top seeds make it to the
finals:
Nagy (HUN) v. Flessel-Colovic (FRA)
---> Nagy (HUN) v. Embrich (EST)
Embrich (EST) v. Szász (HUN)
(Nagy was the gold medalist in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics; in the
individual épée event, Flessel-Colovic won silver in 2004, bronze in
2000, and gold in 1996, but medaled a number of other times in team
events.)
Where foil is concerned, the Italian women do quite well in both 2006
and 2007.
