Dear Boathouse Volunteer.
The weekday program at Pier 96 is finished. Thanks to all of you who
helped run this program. By August we were very busy every night, and
your hard work made it possible for thousands of people to have access
to the river.
Next Sunday September 10th the Boathouse is loaning some boats to a group
running a Senior Olympics for Senior Citizens. We need a volunteer to go
out and help them. It is a very calm and beautiful lake in the middle of
Staten Island. They can probably arrange transportation via car or truck.
For the most part we just need someone to demonstrate the basics of paddling,
and keep an eye on them. The program runs from 4Pm to 6Pm. If you can help
please email
volunteer@... and we will connect you with
the organizers.
Also on September 10th there is a swim race in Irvington. The Kayak
organizers, Paul Amico and Suellen Nelson, are long-time Boathouse
volunteers, and great people. If you want to help with this race please
contact them directly. Some boathouse boats are available for use. You
can reach them via email at
Snelsonpa@..., or phone at 201-538-0246.
Next Tuesday 9/5 we have our monthly meeting at Pier 96. Come at 6:00PM
to catch up with friends, the meeting will be called to order at 6:30PM.
We still need people to work at Pier 40. It is getting busier and buiser
each week as the public finds out we are back Downtown. If you go to one
of the Boathouses, and there is adequate staffing, you can always borrow
a bike and check-out some of the other locations.
The few weeks after Labor Day are often some of our busiest times because
everyone is back in town.
You are receiving this email because you asked to be placed on the
email mailing list for the Downtown Boathouse. If you no longer wish to
receive these emails please send a note to
volunteer@...
Thank You!
Tim Gamble
