Dear Boathouse Volunteer:
Although the air temperature this weekend is expected to be 80 degrees, please
remember that the water is still very cold (below 55 degrees). This is the time
of year where incidents of cold water exposure and hypothermia affect kayakers.
There is no paddling from any of the Boathouse locations (this includes paddling
in the embayment) without first contacting Taino. This is still drysuit season
and we are shortly approaching wetsuit season (above 55 degrees). For more
information on DBTH cold water policy, please see the section on winter paddling
on the DBTH bulletin board under volunteer trips. If you need further
clarification please contact Taino at
taino@....

On May 9, NYC Parks is hosting a kite competition on Pier I at 72nd St. They are
looking some experienced kayakers with cold water experience (a minimum of two
for safety reasons) to help retrieve any kites that fall in the water. If you
want to help out, and you have your own boat (note: no DTBH boats are to be
used), feel free to sign up. The kite flying runs from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. The
contact person at NYC Parks is Anthony Sama who can be contacted at:
anthony.sama@....
The competition is detailed on the following website:

There will also be music on the pier:
