We have added some new lockers. There are still some mystery lockers by the east
door with no names on them. There is a high demand for lockers and regular
volunteers are still looking for lockers. So please only use one locker and when
we add new lockers, if you already have one please don't hop to a new locker.
It makes it hard to keep track of things

"Our very own Harry Spitz, local kayaking scene fixture is doing a large
art installation on Governors Island this weekend.
Forget about the waterfalls this is really really BIG...

The event is part of "Figment NYC - Big art works for airplanes and
helicopters."

They have turned over a huge amount of land to Harry and he will be
drawing large figures, but he won't tell us what, with a chalk marker that
is used for marking off sports fields.

The event is running all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There is a free
ferry to Governors Island that leaves every half hour on the half hour
from lower Manhattan."

Please note that you can not land at governors island unless you are part of a
pre-aranged trip. The Long Island City Community boathouse is doing a trip and
would be happy to host a pod of kayaks from the DTBH. If people are planning to
go Saturday or Sunday email volunteer@....

John McGarvey of the LICCB writes:

So Gov Island is fine with a trip from the Downtown Boathouse, they just want to
know the exact-ish numbers.  Can you let me know if you will do a trip and the
number of kayaks?  That way I can firm up our numbers.

thanks,
~john

So we need people to know how many people are committed to paddling down

New York Kayak Polo is hosting a couple of intro sessions at the Pier 66
boathouse, at West 26th St and the Hudson river.  The first, starting at 6pm on
Wed 7/2, is for beginner kayakers and will include wet exits from a decked boat
and assisted rescues.  The second, from 6pm on Tues 7/8, is for people who have
some kayaking experience and are comfortable in decked boats.  Bring a change of
clothes and a lock for the lockers.  Please also bring your ACA number or $5 for
the single-event insurance fee.  We would appreciate it if people could send an
email to "nykayakpolo@..." for which session they plan to attend so we
have an idea of numbers (but last-minute drop-ins are ok).

Please just take note that on July 20th The NYC Triathalon will need kayakers to
do swim support. If interested-please contact Sandy Sobanski to work out the
details....     dragonsandy1@...      201 963 6293
No experience required. We will have a training class or two-- and use a mix of
sit-on-top kayaks and deckboats available through the DTBH.  Or--use your own
kayak...
There are always nice Nautica goodies given out to kayakers-and they throw a
rocking party afterwards.
Thanks!
Sandy
