Dear Boathouse volunteer
There are only 2 weeks left in our evening, 5-7PM opening at Pier 96. Please
remember that we will still be open on weekends until October 14th this year. We
still need volunteers at all locations.
**************************
As it is getting darker earlier and earlier we are going suspend the volunteer
paddles for the next two weeks. as they would now be leaving in the dark. After
the weekday evening program ends, September 14th is the last day. We will
resume volunteer paddles on tuesdays. With a launch time of 5:30PM There will be
no more weekend, post program volunteer paddles.

There has been some confusion over the authorized boat user list printed in
front the log book.
You do NOT need to be on the list to take a boat out of the ebayment. as part
of an organized boathouse trip, either a public morning trip or a volunteer
trip. You DO need to be approved to take a boathouse boat out of the ebayment
on and independent trip. Boathouse boats must NEVER be taken out of the ebayment
by yourself. There must always be at least 2 people. Please use the log book.
If you wish to be on the authorized boat list, Please contact me. The basic
requirements are the ability to rescue yourself and others, a knowledge of
tides and conditions and some river experience gained on organized boathouse
trips.

Please mark your calendar. The Portside Group in Red Hook Brooklyn is
running their 2nd annual Kayak Valet event. See:

Sat, 9/8/07 Rain date Sun 9/9/07
The idea is that you can paddle down to Red Hook, and leave your boats to
enjoy the neighborhood. We had a lot of fun last year.
Free kayak rides by the Red Hook Boaters

Safety Boat provided by Launch 5

There is no need to sign-up. If you have questions you can email portside
or me. I'll be there for the morning with the Red Hook Boaters doing our
free kayaking program.

A Roshashana (Jewish New Year) Tashlik ceremony will take place at 5:30pm on
Saturday September 15th in the waters off of the
gazebo on the shoreline park just south of the Pier 96 boathouse. The
ceremony involves ritual Hebrew prayers and a casting of the year's sins
into the waters in the form of bread crumbs which will then be washed away
with the outgoing tide. Those who wish to participate via kayak must
arrive no later than 5pm to get kitted out in a boat. The ceremony will be
ecumenical and open to all DTBH volunteers and the general public.

Once again...New Jersey is out of control...Right at the Frank Sinatra Park
kayak launch in Hoboken-- a very entertaining scene will be going on. You can
paddle right up to our nice launch and join in on a canolli eating contest,
grape stomping contest, pizza eating contest, get your boat blessed, listen to a
Bon Jovi cover band, or listen to some of the original ShaNaNa guys... Then-
there's always some dude that does Frank Sinatra very well,ÊÊ there's a
classical Italian Mandolin Orchestra, a Doo-Wop band,Ê throw in some Italian
rockers,Ê and of course... Italian Opera.
Top it off with some fireworks. The Blessing of the Fleet is 4pm Saturday the
8th.
Go toÊ www.hobokenitalianfestival.com for the complete schedule.
As they say on their website..
ÊBadda-Bang!

If you wish to paddle over to Hoboken for the Italian festival, Please note
that these events happen in the evenings so Lights are an absolute MUST. In
addition you should have had previous experience paddling at night before
planning on Crossing the river to Hoboken and back in the dark.
