Dear Boathouse volunteer

Just a reminder that we are continuing paddles after the public program on
Sundays at 6 and tuesdays at 7. It is getting darker much earlier these days so
lights are a MUST on this paddles as they will be returning in the dark. Our
weekday program at Pier 96 only has 3 weeks left. When the weekday program is
over we will move the tuesday paddle to 5PM for the last month of the season.
Lights will still be needed.

In the event that you missed it the last time around, New York Kayak Polo will
be holding another introduction to kayak polo session on Thursday, August 30th,
from 6pm Ð 8pm at our new summer home at the pier 66 boathouse on the Hudson
river at west 26th street.
Our last free intro session drew so many people that we ran out of boats!
The event is free to all participants.
Non-ACA members will have to pay a $10 insurance fee to participate.
All gear is available for your use at no cost: boats, paddles, sprayskirts,
helmets, and lifejackets.
Bring a towel and a dry change of clothes.
For more information about kayak polo and our club, please visit
www.nykayakpolo.org or email us at nykayakpolo@...
We look forward to seeing you there.

Sandy Sobanski is organizing a dinner paddle this Saturday at 6 for people who
have been working the Hoboken days paddle. They will be taking most of the
scuppers. volunteers who are comfortable is a deck boat are welcome to tag
along. There will be a stop for dinner and a return in the dark so, again,
lights are a MUST!

The idea is that you can paddle down to Red Hook, and leave your boats to
enjoy the neighborhood. We had a lot of fun last year.

Free kayak rides by the Red Hook Boaters http://www.redhookboaters.org/.
Safety Boat provided by Launch 5 http://launch5.com/

There is no need to sign-up. If you have questions you can email portside
or me. I'll be there for the morning with the Red Hook Boaters doing our
free kayaking program.

A Roshashana (Jewish New Year) Tashlik ceremony will take place at 5:30pm
in the waters off of the
gazebo on the shoreline park just south of the Pier 96 boathouse. The
ceremony involves ritual Hebrew prayers and a casting of the year's sins
into the waters in the form of bread crumbs which will then be washed away
with the outgoing tide. Those who wish to participate via kayak must
arrive no later than 5pm to get kitted out in a boat. The ceremony will be
ecumenical and open to all DTBH volunteers and the general public.
