IN NEWARK'S FAMED IRONBOUND DISTRICT

If you have never been in a kayak before and would like to try one in a safe
warm environment (a large heated olympic-size indoor pool), or have kayaked
before but would like to learn or practice safety skills (e.g, wet
exits, re-entry, or rolls), please come join us for this annual event.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
* Practice paddling skills
* Practice safety techniques: exits, re-entry, rolls
* Watch rolling and paddling videos
* Meet local whitewater and seakayaking enthusiasts from NJ & NYC area
* All in a warm heated Olympic sized pool
The event and boats and informal lessons are all free, but those without
Rutgers ID need to pay $5.00 guest pass for entry to facility (volunteer
kayak instructors are free).
We will have an assortment of kayaks to try and use but if you have your
own kayak, you are encouraged to bring it (please let us know if you will
bring a kayak)
PORTUGESE BANQUET AFTERWARDS:
Kayaking followed by optional early inexpensive Portugese dinner in
Newark's famed Ironbound district from 5 to 7pm. Located just a few blocks
from Newark Penn Station, makes for easy return to NYC by PATH or NJTRANSIT.
* Bring cash (probably less than $20) for dinner. No checks or Credit Cards.

Newark is 15 minutes by NJ Transit train from NY Penn Station (at 34th & Eight
Avenue). On Saturdays, trains leave NY Penn Station approximately every 20
minutes. The Rutgers-Newark campus is only a 10-15 minute walk from the
train station, or 2 stops on the local trolley.
