Hi guys and gals,

Some of your expressed interest in the BURNING ANNIE
screening in two weeks, so I'm sending along the
formal invite for you.

The event is closed to the public, technically (IFP
rules), but I get an unlimited guest list. Just reply
to rsvp@... and I'll put you on the list.

And yes, the reception after is being sponsored by
Budweiser, Perrier, and Bombay Sapphire. The
after-party will be at Monroe's.

-Randy

3/1/05

* You are cordially invited...

The Independent Feature Project (IFP/west) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) present the New Film Works series screening of "BURNING ANNIE".

  • Thursday, March 17, 2005
  • 7:30pm
  • SilverScreen Theater
  • Pacific Design Center
  • 8687 Melrose Avenue
  • West Hollywood, CA.

New Film Works is a monthly screening series highlighting the best films from filmmakers working outside the mainstream. The series presents contemporary narrative and documentary features that have not yet received American theatrical distribution. The series aims to expand the understanding and appreciation of independent film as a contemporary art form. The program takes place on the third Thursday of each month. New Film Works screenings are limited to IFP and/or MOCA members and their guests.

IF YOU ARE NOT AN IFP OR MOCA MEMBER-- then you must be on the Guest List to get in! RSVP by emailing rsvp@... to get on the Guest List. Please provide your name and the name(s) of your guest(s).

  • Burning Annie
  • Directed by Van Flesher
  • Written by Zack Ordynans and Randy Mack
  • Produced by Randy Mack

  • Max's worldview was formed by the 'cautionary tale' depicted in ANNIE HALL. Now in college, he begins to suspect Woody Allen's masterpiece might be the reason for his disastrous love life, but when he tries to kick the habit, his world is turned upside-down by a girl who may or may not be the modern version of Annie herself.

This dark romantic comedy rises above mere homage to become an original, unflinching, scathingly funny, bittersweet satire of modern love in the media age.

  • Winner of five film festival awards, including Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Gary Lundy), and two Best Film prizes.

  • Starring Gary Lundy, Sara Downing, Kim Murphy, Jay Paulson, Rini Bell, Brian Klugman, Todd Duffey, and Kathleen Perkins.

  • 95 minutes.

The SilverScreen Theater at the Pacific Design Center is located at 8687 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, CA, on the corner of Melrose Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard (map it). The theater is on the second floor of the Pacific Design Center's green building. You may park for a reduced rate of $5 in the Pacific Design Center indoor and outdoor lots. Enter from San Vicente Boulevard just north of Melrose Avenue. Once you have parked, follow the signs to the theater. There is also metered street parking.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the attending filmmakers, and then a reception will follow. Green drinks will be served. After-party-- featuring bands from the Burning Annie soundtrack such as Get Set Go and New MaximimDonkey-- is planned to be held next door at Monroe's (8623 Melrose).

This is the last scheduled LA screening, so don't miss this chance to catch BA on the big screen. Seating is limited, so rsvp quickly.

see ya there!

"Strikes so close to home that it's impossible
to think about it in any sort of detached sense.
Succeeds in conjuring the tone and spirit
of 'Annie Hall'-- a remarkable thing, indeed.
BURNING ANNIE MAY BE THE BEST MOVIE
I'VE SEEN THIS YEAR."
- Entertainment Today
"Clearly a labor of love.
The best romantic comedy I've
seen in years. A GREAT FILM."
- MSNBC
"At once touching and funny, but
never cloying or cute-- credit
the deft writing and camera work.
Add an excellent score and THIS LITTLE FILM COMES UP BIG."
- E. Hampton Independent
"Likable-- tons of 'tude!
SMART-ASS PUNS, WITTY REPARTEE,
sardonic asides, and
SHARP SOCIAL OBSERVATIONS.
Kim Murphy is luminous."
- Daily Variety
"A hilarious homage to Woody Allen.
Lundy has a wiseass, nerdy charisma
and Downing matches him in
smarts and screen presence.
The wisecracking amorous trio could
carry a Hollywood movie..."

"Compelling... Captures the college experience very well.
Character interactions provide
a host of memorable scenes...
A wonderful film. Recommended."

"Relentlessly funny from fade to fade,
without a false note between...
Humor that is rooted in honesty.
A riotous, whip-smart film."
