Hi Team,
This is your muddy-buddy team director, aka "sunshine" with an update on team activities and your 'to do" list for the coming week.
1) Great practice last Tuesday night. Coach Ertl's big gear, muscle-focus workout had our legs feeling squishy on Wednesday. Nice effort by everyone during the intervals...it sounded to me like everyone was working very hard. Thanks! If you have data from your Tuesday workout, please bring a printout and post it on the board by the PMU green hand. Take a look at other's data (HR files, power files, cadence, etc.) and begin to learn how data can be used as a tool to help you improve your cycling.
2) This weekend will be too cold for many of us to train outside, so from 1 p.m. until ..... both Saturday and Sunday let's meet at the Team Training Center (411 Main Street, Grimes). There won't be any structured, coach-lead workout, but one of the coaches can give you a workout if you need something to do. If you show up a bit after 1P and you can't get in ....just come around back to the training room. We'll also have two sets of roller race competition rollers there if you want to see what it feels like to race at high effort for 2 miles. Or, if you just want to practice riding the rollers, you can do that also.
3) Jeff Mertz and Cindy Dubois have done a great job coordinating and designing our 2009 team kit---thank you both very much! If you still have not filled out your clothing order or tried on clothes, Jeff will have the sizing samples at the training center at 1 pm. on Saturday, also next Tuesday. After that, we are placing the clothing order, so it is your responsibility to try on clothes if your not sure of your size. There will very likely only be ONE clothing order for the 2009 race year. Watch for a clothing message that Jeff is sending out tomorrow with the final information.
4) If you have not turned in a 2009 contract, please do so now if you want to race with DMOS/RDMB in 2009. The reason this is important is that you probably would like to have a new team jersey to wear in 2009, and if you want to select your size plus perhaps other clothes, you only have one week left to place your clothing order. DO NOT WAIT until January and then give me your contract...please do it now. If for some reason this is not possible, please e-mail or call me. Thanks!
5) If you want to go to Arkansas for the team camp April 15-19, let me or Coach Hammer know. We'll be starting a list of everyone who wants to go. Our expectation is that everyone on the list will train hard through the winter, and Arkansas training camp will be the "capstone" of your pre-season training leading up to the 2009 racing and event (brevet) season. Coach Hammer and I will be watching (like Santa...) to make sure your are "being good' and training consistently and with effort during the pre-season.---For those of you who cannot or do not want to go to Arkansas camp, it is possible we could do an Iowa camp in early spring. This is not for sure, and we don't have tentative dates yet, but it is something we have talked about.
If you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions for the team, please feel free to contact me or Coach Hammer or Ertl.
Thanks,
Coach Randy
