Well I just        got engaged! Can't believe it, just last year I was beginning

I suggest picking up a tape or DVD, such as the one by John Powell, on discus
throwing to learn the basics. Buy a powerball and learn how to turn. Do
thousands of turns with the ball. Learning how to smoothly accelerate the discus
while balanced is critical to throwing far.

Don't overemphasize weight training. While it is an advantage to be strong
and powerful, learning the fundamentals is most important. Place technique work
above strength training at this time in your career. Try to take 10,000 throws
per year and watch films. You can get film clips for free on the Internet.
Also, USA Track and Field has a DVD featuring films of the finalists at the
Athens Olympics.

I have been competing in the discus since 1962. My strength is poor now
compared to when I was in my 20s, yet I can still throw the 2 kg discus over 150
feet (nearly 58 years of age). The secret is balance and acceleration. Learn to
keep your feet turning. Good luck and keep with it. This is a wonderful event.

problems gettin more distance. I throw out of the spin motion.I am
going in to eighth grade and throw at tops in the mid 90s. i feel that
