Megan,

I also want to add that as an alternative to sitting
around in your undies, you can elect to take off the
undies and leave your outer layers on. (This is the
method I used in order to walk away with my
prize-which was cinnamon schnopps and a holiday cd).

It was quite fun teasing the dudes in the room, but I
must confess I thought twice about what undies I wore
that night. You know it would have been a little
embarassing if folkses saw me wearing bloomers or
something Hee-HEE.

What was it that was so popular a couple of years ago, the Osbournes
lunch box? All I remember is that it got "stolen" a couple of times
right away, which resulted in Monica being in her birthday suit for
most of the evening after she made the final steal. Good thing there
was a roaring fire going. Dave, Dan, myself, and Mr. "I'm going to
hide behind a chair when I take my underware off" Hartl were soon to
follow. ;-) Although I seem to recall it was Dina who wanted
something, and it was Alex who paid the price... ;-)

Su, Eric, and Clare were also in various states of undress. Who am I
forgetting? With that cumulative cost to steal, things can get out of
hand quickly (unless everyone brings gifts that aren't worth stealing
- where's the fun in that??!? :-)

Booze was a popular item to steal that night. So were the little
rubber-disc-shooter guns, as I recall. The lunch box too of course.
Dave and his pistachio(?) nuts made the circuit. Maybe others can
chip in with their memories!

Cool, funny, alcoholic, or kinky gifts are the best. With a $15
spending limit, and a crowd like Disco Elvis, this isn't the kind of
party where decorative candlesticks will be highly desired.

Unless they're battery powered.... ;-)

I think I already told you, but I am definitely very excited and committed
to this tournament! Some of you might already know that I am fairly new to
Las Vegas (less than 3 months) and don't know very many people yet, so I
don't really have many other time committments. I think it will be a great
thing to field a women's team and I am very excited about that as well since
I have only ever played co-ed. In Northern Minnesota there weren't a lot of
women who played, so the 2 or 3 of us that ever showed up and went along to
tournaments were lucky if we got to play against a team that had 1 or 2
women also. This will be a new experience for me and I'm thrilled to be a
part of it!

I'll see you on Tuesday!

Ladies Ladies Ladies

We have a wonderful chance to build our women's scene here in Vegas
during the weekend of January 29 & 30th. Alexis and I are very
excited about taking a women's team to NWF. And we want you
(convincing huh?) We would like to take a combined team of disco
elvis veterans and young energetic UNLV ladies. Bids are not that
far off so we need to get a level of commitment from you folks.

The level of commitment entails:
1 - naturally playing the weekend of the tourney.
2 - attending Saturday practices (you know how the boys are
practicing at Buffalo - we could have ours during the same time slot
but at a different park). I feel strongly about these practices for
various reasons. a) We have a lot of people who have never played
together before and we need to get used to each others playing
styles (and uh playing without boys is a very different game -
something our Las Vegas scene as yet to experience). b) We need to
familiarize ourselves with a unified philosophy on defenses and
offenses. c) This will be a great opportunity to work on skills -
everybody needs work on skills.
3 - I understand that there is not a ton of time between now and the
end of January (due to the holidays) and that you may have
previously scheduled things on the weekends. In which case I would
ask that you attend anyone of the three nights of Ultimate in Las
Vegas. If you show up, even though it is pick-up and fun, assign
yourself something to work on.

As a side note; I think it is only fair and square to say that the
folks who show up to the most practices will have the for the most
playing time (if they want it). We can also work out a system for
playing time at the Saturday practices.

So far the list consists of...

Megan
Alexis
Jen
Christy
Monica

Please let me know how interested you are. Please let me know if we
are asking too much - too little. Please let me know.

Can't Wait
Megan

Disco Elvi,

Just making sure...We are playing at Cannon Middle
School tomorrow, right? At 8pm? If not, please
respond (as to where and when). Thanks...

I'm assuming there will be no pick-up on thursday
night at Desert Breeze because it's turkey day. I
won't be in town anyway. Didn't we play on
thanksgiving day last year? Or was it during New
Years Day? (I think it was New Years Day. We should
try to organize it again, it was fun...)

It was a little exciting going over Mountain Pass (snow was blowing
sideways, and I could feel the jeep fishtailing on the ice, even at

And yes you were wonderful hosts! I hope all turns out well in your
developmental class. Don't let that b*tch get you down!

Way to go UNLV! That first victory is sweet. You'll never forget it!
Don't worry about defeating the zone - with the skills I saw you
display at Sectionals, I know it'll be just a short time before you
master zone play. The more you practice it the more you'll crush it in
a game!

On a different note, it was good to see folks this past weekend.
Bummer that we couldn't see all our friends, but it was nice to be
back even for a short time. We really miss living in Vegas and being
closer to everyone.

For those we didn't see, and for those we forget to give it to, we do
have some treats (read: chocolate) from England. We'll get you your
treats someday soon (hopefully at the Christmas party).

Many many thanks to Dave & Monica for being our wonderful hosts! For
those in the crowd that haven't made the journey down to "The Ranch",
the place is *very* neat! Love the ore carts!

Happy and Safe Thanksgiving to all!

Red Army:

Good job, comrades!! It sounds like you guys played
your hearts out. You guys might be lacking in skills
and experience, but you guys definitely make it up
with your athleticism and hunger. It won't be long
before the team, as a whole, reaches that level where
you guys can be competing to go to the regionals and
even nationals. Keep up the good work and don't even
think about letting up on your efforts. (Because
there are plenty of teams out there that are just as
determined and just as hungry to make it to the
regionals and nationals.)

James.

I have lots of memories of those UCSD November tournaments and, yes,
the UCSD groundkeepers are a bunch of dickless wimps when it comes to rain.
The level of compitition was pretty good 8 years ago when I played there last
and it can only have gotten better since then, so congratulations on getting a
win and on being competative throughout. Here is my $.02. Work on skills,
skills, skills. It seems to me like you guys can compete athletically so you
should concentrate on not cutting your own throats. Once you have come to a
situation where other teams are beating you rather than you beating yourself
then
you can worry about everything else.

        Congratulations,

                 Alex

Hey Guys!

Fantastic job this weekend. Thanks to everyone for putting all their effort and
blood into playing. This is an amazing start for UNLV Ultimate! I write this
e-mail as a summary of the tournament, for those of you that would like to add
or remind me of something that happenned, or correct a mistake, just reply!

SATURDAY

Game 1 - Cal Poly SLO

We were even at 3s or 4s when cal poly blew it open. We went to half at 8-4 (I
think). The score soon became something like 14-4 before we came roaring back to
6 straight points. At some point Ryan caught a goal and spiked the shit out of
the disc, which should never be done again, but was done in such a way that
really fired everyone up. Their lead was too much and we ended up losing 15-10.

Game 2 - UCSD

This was one third of the official UCSD team. Half the players were vets, half
new. This game was pretty damn intense with things getting heated about calls.
When forced to play man defense, we tore them up pretty well, but unfortunately,
due to our inexperience, their cup got to us. I beleive the game ended 15-9.

Game 3 - NAU

We jumped to an early lead, i beleive we had them at 7 to 3 at one point before
they came back to take half at 8 to 7. After half we lost 2 of 3 points to be
down 10 to 8. At this point, soft cap was called. UNLV was tired of the fucking
around and due to some absolutely amazing defense and "chilly" offense, we
scored four in a roar to close out our first ever win!

Party - At the Beach

Absolutely rediculous. UNLV earned some sort (though im not sure what kind) of
reputation at the party. With Chris Czech getting his freak on and brandon boat
racing any bitch that would step up... and the fact that we were the first ones
there to enjoy the PBR light made the whole thing fantastic. I got a little
worried when Neil and Chris disapeared from my room and didnt return for an hour
or so, but everything ended up working out alright.

DAY 2

The goddamn tournament was fucking cancelled due to weather (pussies! well
actaully it makes a lot of sense, but still!!!) so SDSU invited us to play on
their awesome artificial turf to play a mini tournament of games to 7.

Game 1 - NAU again

Our first game where we got a lead and held it throughout. Kenny scored his
first two goals. Awesome. We ended up winning 7-2.

Game 2 - SDSU

Everyone played their hearts out this game. The flow was kinda sorta working for
the first cut or so and once again the D's were out of control. Oh yeah, and we
made short work of their cup. Unfortuanately, drops plagued us, and we ended up
losing 7 -4.

Good News
  - Absolutely insane D's
  - First Wins
  - The learning progression for this team is amazing - everyone stepped up
absolutely
    huge.

Bad News
- Neil fucked his shoulder up
- Lots of clogging

I cannot wait to step onto the field with this team again. See everyone
wednesday.

Later Commrades!

-Chris Read

Disco Elvi,

It appears that turnout for thursday pick-up (at
Desert Breeze) has been dismal lately. I don't know
if the cold weather is a primary factor, but I'm
writing to my fellow Disco Elvi to see if they can
make renewed efforts to make it out to the west side
for some ultimate frisbee action. Thanks...

Last night, we played some frisbee golf before playing
"firewall" with 5 people. Afterwards, I casually
suggested that we run the hills and to my utter
surprise, they all agreed without any twisting of the
arms. That just made my day!!!!!

James

All:
This is from the organizer of the annual Los Angeles beach tournament.
This is a 3-2 beach event. 3 men and 2 women on every team. I am VERY
interested in going to this and it is 2 weeks b4 New Years Fest. The cost
is $250 per team so if you want to go it's essential that you can put up the
cash immediately. They are hosting 50 teams this year. Yes I'm not lying.
50 teams of 5. I think a core group of 10 people (6 guys and 4 women) to go
to this would be fantastic. If I can get commitment from people by Monday I
will send in a bid and collect from everyone in the next couple of weeks.
This is a great opportunity to play a fantastic version of Ultimate.

Let me know.

Eric

Hey Eric,

I saved a bid in case a vegas team was interested in coming to
Lei-Out. Were you interested in bringing one?

Let me know because I have a few teams wanting to get in.

Just so you know, the lights can be turned on manually by pressing the button by
the northeast baseball field.

Two weeks in a row now there have been no lights at Vo-Tech and we
have moved pick up to Cannon. Last night there weren't even football
players at Vo-Tech. I would like to officially change pick up to
Cannon, so I'm going to do make that change unless there is a huge
public out cry. In which case I will summarily dismiss your
arguments and do it anyway.

Seriously, you can't play pick up in the dark. We need a field with
lights. Cannon has both a field and lights. Maybe someone can get
Adam to sweet talk a former co-worker to turn the lights back on, but
I'm not going to hold my breath and in the mean time I'd like not to
spend 30 minutes or so changing fields.

To sum up, pick up on Tuesdays at Cannon middle school 8pm (the lit
fields on Russell, one block east of eastern.)

p.s. Tuesday pick up at Cannon.
