I would like to thank everybody that showed up today to practice today.  I know people have a lot going on and it was a holiday weekend but we need to make every effort to practice because sectionals is coming up fast.  Mike has put me in charge of getting people to come out so this will be the first of many e-mails to the group.

We will be holding a practice next Saturday as well and may be going to every week until the tourney.

FITH if at all possible can you convince your Ridgecrest player to come out at least once to a practice before sectionals.  I know it is a long way but its not like there is anything better to do for a weekend out where you live.

Bristol, give me the contact info for the Penultimate player(s) that may be joining us.  I would like to get them to a practice as well.

James,

I'm not sure I have any answers that you haven't
already thought of. It does sound like the new
insoles exacerbated the problem. Is there anyway you
can just go back to the old insoles? Or is there a
third type you haven't tried? Maybe try ice/heat
therapy.

I have to agree with Mike's earlier comment about the
drugs. You might try loading up on some IB Profen.
My friend Barry (who works for a pharmaceutical
company) says that IB Profen actually has been proven
to have other positive health benefits than just
dulling pain. Dan the alcoholic might have something
to add as I can't remember what Barry specifically
said...and Dan does know his drugs 8^) I'm currently
taking 600 mg of IB Profen 3 times a day to help with
my back-and it is really helping. The doctor told me
the maximum dosage of IB Profen one can take in a day
is 3200 mg, so I'm way under the limit.

The only other thing I can add is just the regular,
"If it hurts then don't do what's making it hurt". I
really hope that the injury is not a tear-when I tore
a ligament in my shoulder it once took 3 months of not
climbing before it healed (combined with the therapy
the doctor prescribed-involving a bunch of lame things
like lifting soup cans various directions and "walking
my hand up the wall). But, I have to hand it to the
doc-better to take time off than have to go through
surgery later.

Okay, sorry for the dissertation. But, I really hope
you get better. I know I'm not the only one who
enjoys running around with you on the field!

I'm also so happy about the Lucky 7s! Way to go Alex
& Eric! You guys kick a$$! And no, I didn't write
kiss a$$! I also want to give a shout out to Monica &
Dave-how was Turkey? And I wanted to say hi to Su and
Dina and Jen(if she's out there still).

ChocolatiE Clare,

I'm having all sorts of feet problem and I don't know
if my new cleats have anything to do with it. I
recently bought some insoles, but somehow that's not
helping (I think it actually made it worse). I get a
tremendous pain (almost to a point of numbness outside
both of my feet from the tip of pinky toe one third
length towards the heel) whenever I make sharp cuts.
Any ideas on how to remedy this situation, besides
getting new cleats?

James.

Well the roster is off to the UPA.

The following people were cool and got info before the deadline, the
rest of you suck.

On the roster
Mike (paid, waiver)
Alex (paid, no waiver)
Eric W (paid, waiver)
Dan S (paid, ? waiver)
James Hong (paid, no waiver)
Lance (paid, no waiver)
Dennis (paid, no waiver)
Eric Tobbler (paid, ? waiver)
James Tesmer (not paid, no waiver)

The theme is no waivers yet. Don't worry, we will do waivers morning
of, not a big deal. If you aren't on the list above, don't fret you
just have to bring your check book to the field and pay morning of.

All:
I apologize if this email is going to some of you twice. The great
news is that I was able to land some fields to hold our Lucky 7's tourney
this year. The tourney date is set for November 1,2. That's the weekend
after Halloween and we may have a suitably themed party set up for Saturday
night. Our web site is not updated yet but will be soon so keep checking
often at lvultimate.com. Here are the pertinent details if your team wants
to submit a bid.

12 Co-Ed Teams.
UPA SANCTIONED SO ROSTERS ARE DUE October 15th at UPA headquarters.
Cost $185. Bid is $100 due at the latest September 15th.
ROSTER CAP is 15 people.
Send bids to:

Eric Wolf
3951 Avonwood Ave.
Las Vegas, NV 89121

If that isn't clear enough please make the check for $100 out to me.

My phone numbers if you need to reach me.
W 702 - 697 - 8429
H 702 - 547 - 1575

I am taking bids on a first received first taken basis. If it gets tight
and I receive multiple bids for the same spot, points will be given for
originality and style. So put your bid in the mail ASAP. As of this email
I have no bids (which was cool because until yesterday I didn't have fields)
and look forward to any/all of you coming to play with us. If I get enough
interest it is possible I may open up the tourney to 15 teams. If you're
interested but on the fence send me email and we'll go from there.

A quick word about my roster cap. Last year we had a couple teams bring
over 20 people. I was cool with it up to the point where they all ate food.
I am planning dinner again this year and it is impossible to plan/pay for
teams with huge numbers of people. Most of the home team went without food
last year, that's not going to happen again. That's why there is a roster
cap.

Ultimately,
Eric Wolf

All-

I am sending in a roster to the UPA tommorow.

What does this mean? It means I need information from you if you plan on
going to sectionals. I need it now. If you don't get it into me, then you
have to deal with crap the morning of sectionals. You have to pay the fees
and you have to fill out the forms. If you are currently a member of the
upa and not on the roster with current information, bring your upa card or
you may have to rejoin (they don't know you are really a member.)

What do I need -
Name
Address
Phone Number
Current UPA Satus - You can pay online (I encourage you to do that)
UPA# or the last four digits of your social

E-mail this to me right now at doghits@... - do not wait.

specifically I need info from
Eric W
Dave B
Aaron

If you haven't given me money yet, please pay the UPA online at
https://www.upa.org/members/login.php

Do it today, do not wait, do it for the king!

I'll be your hunka-hunka burnin' love baby! :-)

I'm up in San Jose this (holiday!) weekend, so everyone be safe and
happy (or, if you've just purchased the Animal House Double-Secret
Probation Collectors Edition, feel free to go thru life fat, drunk,

See you the weekend of the 13th for practice!

To all,

It's raining pretty good outside my office as of
6:20pm on 8/26/03 (Tuesday)--not to mention all the
thundering I hear. If it's still raining like cats
and dogs around 8pm, then I probably won't be going
out to Desert Breeze. I don't mind playing in the
rain, but it's the lightning I'm worried about. I
kinda don't want to be electrocuted before the
sectional if you know what I mean.

James.

Eric-
While I am totally in favor of the entire team bowing down before me, I can think of a whole lot of more interesting things they can be giving me while they are there.  If that is a problem for anybody, they can just show up to practice and play awsome ultimate at sectionals and I will call it even.  I know this might prove to be a disincentive for some people (e.g., FITH) but if they play well you can have seconds.

Yep, I totally agree. Let's play some serious Ultimate.

So the days of November 1-2 are fixed? Or should I mark my calendar
with a pencil? :-)

Team:
I was out all weekend I hope practice went well. If this is a democracy, and I hope it isn't, my vote is to play play short numbered or simply not go rather than take players who come out of the woodwork.

yep, you've mentioned the importance of coming to practice, and I
totally agree with cutting somebody you've never met if people start
to come out of the woodwork. I'll convey all of that too him.

Best news I got all week!

I say no to costumes on the fields. Would rather play hard
utlimate. Getting teams to come up with "spooky"/Haloween themed
names is good and do a costume contest at the party!

-Mike

Trick or Treat, smell my cleat, throw the disc and you'll get beat.

Dennis,

I could have sworn I replied to this, but it doesn't look like me
response is coming through. So here I go again.

Tell Brady, we want him to come to a practice. If we meet him, bond,
etc. at a practice with him he is in- no more questions. He probably
is in anyways, but if people come out of the wood work and start
showing at practice (not likely, but I hold out hope) I won't
hesitate on cutting someone I have never met. But like I said if he
shows, then I have no problem telling someone in town who doesn't
show to practices, sorry we have enough people and you aren't invited.

Pulled this post off of rec.sport.disc. It pretty much kicks ass.
Thought I would share.

------"team X's members are dedicated to constant self improvement,
which
will improve our team as a whole. we play our hardest all the time,
no
matter what, making the score insignificant to the joy of the
battle. we
simply TRY our hardest all the time. practice is more important than
tournaments and games and scrimmages...because at practice is what WE
are
all about...Team X, together, improving, trying hard, learning,
getting to
know one another. getting better as a team. If you want to be a part
of
Team X, then you are invited. If not, then seek your ultimate
elsewhere,
because our team is about the athletes playing, and not about those,
who are
not."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
> - field team
----damn...i want to help, but i don't know what "field team" means.
what does it mean?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
> - cooperating with existing city teams

---don't.(cooperate with existing teams)
fuck them.
gather your teammates...and grow with them.
if there is a college team in your city...and they don't have a "big
brother" club team...then do everything in your power to "cooperate"
with
them. College teams can gain a lot from practicing or competing with
local
club athletes. it is proven.
get each of the college kids on your team...teach them the
sport...and use
them for their defense and running legs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
> - play book
---steal things that work for good teams.
make stuff up along the way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
> Like I said, we're a new Open team breaking trail in a co-ed region.

---make a phone list.
call it every week to remind teammates or interested athletes about
practice
times.
call the list again the night before practice.
then, call the list an hour before you leave for practice.

decide how you want to play, and do drills that replicate what it is
that
you want to do. repetition of what you want to do, makes what you
want to
do....easy.

be friendly and get everyone hooked on playing...
do fun drills where ya get to chuck the frisbee real far...
teach a cut or two in your drills...
then, once everyone is hooked...start to run more IN YOUR DRILLS!(not
more
sprints and distance...ever....)

small team? don't get 14 to practice? so what...
do the same drills you would if you had 30 at practice.
3v3 on a small field is BETTER than a full field scrimmage of 7v7.
BETTER.

go to tournaments.
get into as many as you can.
go to crappy tournaments...go to high caliber tournaments.

host a tournament.
host four tournaments.
host a tournament as big as you can...even if that is only 4 teams
who play
round robin, semis and finals on both sides of a soccer field.
cones, fruit, water, a schedule, a horn and a watch....that's all ya
need.

don't give up.
don't give up on the team when no one comes to practice.
don't give up when only 6 show up for practice.
don't give up when you lose each game.
don't give up when you think you have the game won.
don't give up when everyone quits.

Team X is for the people that are playing on Team X...not for the
people
that aren't.

battle....in everything you do for your team.
