10th over all. Jasmine finished 6th in the women 4's.

Pie Crit up in Napa: The 15-18 junior field was ready to go at 8:30
with 60 + kids on the line, boys and girls together. I must say
that Ruth and Jasmine are brave young women to race with the boys.
Within the 1st few laps the lead group split off from the rest of
the field. I was happy to see that Ben and Cameron made the break.
There were about 15-20 kids in that group. Ruth was chasing solo
and Jasmine was a bit behind, but in the next few laps Jasmine
caught Ruth by using her excellent drafting skills. I could tell
that Ruth's solo effort took a toll on her. When Jasmine caught
Ruth, the boys field was breathing down their neck almost at the top
of the hill and at that point the officials pulled the small group
of riders that Jasmine and Ruth were in. I believe that Jasmine was
ahead of Ruth at that point, but it happened so fast that there was
no time for a sprint or anything. That was a
> little disappointing for the girls. So Ruth placed 3rd and
Jasmine 2nd. One other girl had held onto the lead group of boys.
> On one of the laps a racer had unclipped and took down 2
other riders. I saw Cameron use his mtn biking skills and jump over
a wheel. No one was hurt, as it was on the uphill.
> In the final lap, I am sure the pace was blistering,, as the
field was chasing a break away group of 3 boys, one of them being my
old teammate, Brian Larsen(Mako). I thought that Brian was 18 last
year, but I guess he has one more year as a junior. Brian had
outsprinted Ye Lin (the kid I coached last year), by 1/2 an inch at
Jr. Criterium Nationals last summer, so I know he is an incredible
sprinter. They both podiumed, 4th and 5th.
> So Brian won the sprint easily, followed by a 15-16 Tieni
Duro kid. Ben I believe was 4th or 5th in the 15-16 field, and
Cameron finished mid-pack..his placing was not posted yet.
> Great job to all of you....if you have time, it would be fun to
read your race report.
> By the way, Ruth and Jasmine both raced later in the the women
4's. I'm pretty sure I heard that Ruth placed 5th in the 4's....was
that right?
> Also later that day during the pro,1,2 race, I saw Brian
Larsen get in the winning break with some of the top Pro's...Jackson
Stewart, Lucas Euser, Devon Vigus....He ended up 8th in a field of
100. Not bad for a junior. Lucas and Devon both started cycling
through mountain biking.. Also sighted in the peleton were tour
rider Freddy Rodriguez (raced as a junior down south), and former
College Park student Daniel Holloway wearing his Elite National
jersey (criterium). Daniel promised me he would come and ride with
our juniors after school one day , as he did last spring. (sprint
practice?)
